Three Peaks, Monte Paterno, Toblin Tower

Yesterday I was with the group (forum member Pikec1) in the Dolomites on wonderful paths and via ferratas around the Three Peaks. First Monte Paterno, then also Torre di Toblin.

Anyway, we chose more than excellent weather, no breeze, but it was hot. Purpose was originally photo trip. I'll attach some pics anyway nasmeh

Sorry: But why do you always write 3 cine, which if read Slovenian way but sounds Italian means 3 dicks?
Cine is cinema... It's written in a famous book too, but I didn't understand why.

To be honest, I have no idea what's correct. Uncle Google finds 2290 hits under Tri Cine, 2730 under Tre Cime.

Kino is 'il cinema' in Italian.

It finds somewhat few for you, for me a bit over half a million for cime, 60x less for cine (which is shorter form of cinema). That's why it offers corrections too.

Google fight has its own numbers, but same trend.

Yes, on Italian Google there are 515,000 results for Tre cime. Tre Cine reminds of Chinese 3.
Cine is shorter form that was more used years ago. So cinema isn't just a nickname for cinema. More known about it is Cine Panettone.
Just for comment. And nice pictures, yes. Weather you maybe ordered, we had end of July 20 cm fresh snow and cold and cloudy..

Overnight at Auronzo hut was cheap but little sleep. At such prestigious spot bunks could be much newer, squeaky doors replaced, and much more. But never mind, everything else outweighs the stay. Morning view of awakening day amid mountains fixed the night's impression. Still nearly dark we headed to Lavaredo hut and on to Locatelli hut. Sat there a bit, then to nearby Torre Toblin. Ferrata or klettersteig, we called it lojtrasteig, perfect for morning workout. Views unique, esp. on Tre Cime. Descended easier east side, back to hut and sat more. Then ascent to Monte Paterno-Paternkofel.

On Saturday we visited the Tre Cime area, left home at 2 a.m. and after a 5-hour drive from Styria arrived at the big parking lot at the base of Tre Cime. The weather was wonderful and the views superb. We also climbed Monte Paterno, through the tunnel and then via a short ferrata to the top. The ferrata is not too demanding, but it almost exceeds the difficulty of the hardest paths in our mountains, so don't take it too easy. Special care is needed with the stones, which are quite polished. Towards the top there is some more climbing and we were rewarded with wonderful views far around. Descent down the other part of the ferrata, which has similar difficulty to the ascent, then quickly to the cars and home, as the next day a long drive to the High Tatras was waiting for us, where we tackled a real ferrata.
Really nice tour a bit around the Dolomites.

Same as last year, only took wife and dad this year. Ascent to Torre di Toblin via ferrata, down the easier path. Later ascent to Paterno via tunnels, this year the right route, not like last year nasmeh. Then a bit to Cortina D. to refuel in town, just a bit late for the gondola to Tofana di Mezzo, next time via ferrata. Sun and hot, people not as many as last year. Best, Grega

Congratulations to all for the really nice pictures, I too wandered around there about four years ago. Access on foot from the South Tyrol side, good three hours from Hotel Dolomitenhof (Sexten - Sesto), to avoid the toll from Cortina.

The name is officially exactly as IgorZlodej said: Tre Cime di Lavaredo. That's how it is written in Lonely Planet too. Drei Zinnen is German, maybe 'cine' is in some local dialect.

I didn't know that 'cine' means 'pinnacle' (karst) in Italian, but it could really be a shorter (colloquial?) form of the word 'cinema'.
