Again I ended up on nearby Toško Čelo. Up there it's snowing quite strongly compared to valley Ljubljana. Some old snow still remains here too, new one about 7-8cm that completely covers nature. Fewer brave hikers than usual, but still some groups of MTB cyclists headed towards Katarina. If you have time, use it in the snowy fairy-tale idyll. No pics, but tomorrow more from higher tour. Lp

I took a short walk through the snowy landscape of Toško Čelo. Meanwhile fine powder snow fell lightly, visibility only to Šmarna Gora. Visited the ski jump and ski slope too, then to Bitenc for borovničke and for a change back by road to Kurirček. Quite a few hikers, yeah idyllic during snowfall. Lp nasmeh

Today I drove up to Toško Čelo by car to quickly watch the solar eclipse, which only some generation far apart gets to see. Up top it was quite cold, one degree less than in cold Lj basin -8°C. Due to fog that occasionally dispersed into some clear skies, I managed only a few photos at top of T.Č. nasmeh

Nice, although partial solar eclipse is nothing special and visible every few years.

To see a real 100%, probably really only once in lifetime (like those who a decade ago bothered to drive to Prekmurje).
Already between 99% and 100% sun coverage it's a visually inconceivable difference eek

Late afternoon I head to "nearby" Toško Čelo, but return is real odyssey!.
Up I go on dry road, but plenty of snow. Some even drive right to top with SUVs to check snow depth. At top 590m almost 1m of it, hasn't been that much here for long. For return choose path via L.K.Toško Čelo, following well-trodden track. Lower down track doesn't turn to Kurirček parking, locals from Glince made it only uphill. Since running, missed passage quickly and almost in valley. Heavily snow-covered trees all identical, quietly told myself lost in own backyard. Go back on track, bit higher turn to known forest road leading to Kurirček parking. On top fog starts from cooling, poor visibility, me wading waist-deep in overgrown forest. Push through, catch downhill skier's track with skins easing progress. Finally track vanishes. Dims quickly, me without light, GSM. If stuck once more in tough terrain, in dark easy wolf food. Decide to flee downhill to stream gully. There run faster than mad Rambo in snowless stream bed. Reach clearing where three roe deer stare astonished. At cross and sign to Brezarjevo brezno. Follow deep snow of old road to civilization. See first houses and uni classmate Matija's house. Still torturous steep 50m climb on all fours to his driveway. Finally laugh as Matija shovels 150m driveway.
Described another real adventure ala LG, so in given snow conditions no path without snowshoes or skis, off paths don't go alone if not all calculated with path knowledge, time, bivouac gear, survival. nasmeh

Because in Ljubljana only occasionally a shower blows in from the south, I set off on foot to the nearby Toško Čelo hill.
Uphill I stuck to the somewhat muddy forest path. Very few visitors for a popular Ljubljana summit, two MTBs, two on road bikes, and some young "pigeons". Almost no wind down below, up top the warm southerly was nicely shaking the creaking trees. At this time of year there's usually already some snow up here, now there's just an almost unbearable snowless vibe. After this winter we'll have to head to higher parts of our mountains. Today at home Toško Čelo I witnessed huge devastation of forest areas.
Looking at the wider forest area, there's not one part of the forest that the ice spared even a little. The forest along the road to Toško Čelo is unrecognizable and will only recover with difficulty even over years of regeneration. Where there are now broken empty forest spaces, snow in the coming winters will further destroy the forest because the loaded trees won't be able to lean on each other. After meeting local Bitenec, he said his forest on the top part of Toško Čelo hill is completely destroyed, timber only good for firewood. Salvaging wood from steep slopes will be very demanding, if at all?
The road to Toško Čelo is officially closed to tourists, only locals can go up. Further across the Ravnik plateau towards Katarina, forest workers haven't broken through yet. A runner who went to Katarina said the road is littered with lots of logs and even on foot very hard to pass, she was dirty on the back of her jacket like a forest worker. In the future there will probably be several forest vehicles present constantly hauling and clearing roadside logs. How it is and how much damage across all of Slovenia, we can only imagine from the model of our local hill.

I also decided today to run up (if the road is passable) to Toško Čelo. As viharnik says, we witnessed real devastation mrk pogled

The path from Glince past the abyss, across the clearing towards Toško Čelo is in places still very hard to pass. The visible consequences of the ice storm are catastrophic and it breaks the heart of anyone who loves nature. Better to return by road.

By bike to Toško Čelo to see what cutlets they're grilling. / good and big /. I turned into some Kucja valley I'd never heard of. Along bad forest paths I finally found the road to the hunting hut. Ten maybe fifteen people warming in the sun with food and drink.
