Touring descents with snowboard

Hi all,

I'm curious if there's any other "fellow sufferer" who heads to the mountains with a snowboard on the backpack, spicing up approaches mostly with climbing couloirs?
Here's the issue: for ascent you need boots with hard sole for automatic crampons, then at top changing to soft snowboard boots for descent. I carry soft boots in backpack, but with other gear (crampons, ice axe, occasionally harness and rope + other stuff) it gets pretty heavy.

Sometimes risky changing on exposed spots, and multiple changes for multiple peaks.

Anyone got a solution? Multi-purpose boot they probably haven't made yetnasmehnasmehnasmeh!!

Several times I've seen some have hard snowboard bindings and boots - pancarje. Look for something like that. Don't know how it works for walking though...

Could use touring pancarje, I've tried that, but the feel when riding with hard bindings is not sufficient for me... hard bindings and pancarji are great only on hard icy base where more force or weight transfer is needed, useless or less fun on powder, softened snow...

Me too, I say those pancarji buci are the best, but hell when you have everything in backpack, only way otherwise doesn't work, one option is to drag board behind you, regarding shoes hope solution found someday lp.fellowsufferer

Some have winter plastic boots. Everything imo you can't have in boarding...it's all just one big compromisenasmeh

I board in "plastic" myself. Some of my mates board with touring pancarji, some even in winter leather gojzari. Advantage of that footwear is that you can clip on automatic crampons up there and sure step of course.

See "bordarčke" walking in buci though. Doesn't seem right to me because up there strap crampons hard to fit. Without basic winter gear to mountains we know how it goes...

"sla" in plastic you mean plastic winter boots? I also thought of leather winter boots... I don't know how they perform, since they're a bit shorter in height than snowboard boots (does it affect foot stability?)

Those who hike in the mountains in snowboard boots are totally irresponsible, as we all know what sole they have..nasmeh I only use those boots for walking in combination with snowshoes, and even that only for lower tours during corn snow season, and that's it... otherwise better 2kg more in the backpack, safe reliable step!!!

I don't know how you climb couloirs with a helicopter?

With a helicopter you don't need them, because it drops you on the top. That solves the boot problem too.

otherwise it's a joke... don't be so uptight tol!

Člebek - yes, a plastic winter boot.
I basically started from hiking interests when I began thinking about snowboarding. Never snowboarded in boots, so I can't give you a comparison regarding stability.
Anyway, I snowboard when conditions are better for it (corn snow), in hard conditions I feel much better on skis :-)

Jus: crampon is fine, snowboard boot doesn't suit me because it's too soft and not reinforced enough for ascending, don't you think?

Sla: what bindings do you have then? Regarding stability I meant foot stability in the boot, since winter boot is much lower than snowboard one. That one goes way above ankle, helps stability when leaning, heel doesn't lift when leaning..

Did you mean like this boot:

whoa, that's already a higher price range... ha, depends what boot you have, believe me with good boot you can hike very nicely and it also provides enough support for whoo down! sure those boots price-wise hmeek, Spantik is really for expeditions and high mountains, with it in our Alps you have nothing to do... when I hiked sometimes I changed shoes and boots hop in backpack and down! Spantik though... dunno. maybezmeden

no well dunno, I just gave example of plastic boot.. didn't even think.. I have boots.. Burton.. mid price range, medium hard.. freeride model.. Not saying can't walk in them.. very comfy, soft, foot doesn't hurt at all.. but sole no grip, slips when bit harder.. Tried crampons on (classic strap ones), ok for easier ascents no problem, but couloirs in boots no way..
Otherwise I change too, but sometimes.. haha.. wanna put more in backpack but can't cos boots take most space..nasmehnasmeh!!!

I hike in boots, goals clearly easier, but still harder than what I can ride down

sole holds solid, just crampons go on a bit earlier. I have Camp Stalker and they go on and off very easily (no issues) and serve me better than automatics for some,...

to me this doesn't seem crazy at all, or dunno what. if you want to climb some hard stuff leave board at home, or ride in boots that take automatic crampons and enjoy descent a bit less.

PS: hiked quite a bit in boots (even todaynasmeh) and will continue...

Best regards

Jaša, thanks, I'll try once with such crampons up and it will be..

I have Scarpa Vega - very old plastic from my mountain beginnings. Bindings are soft, though. For touring ski boots you need hard bindings (because straps are usually too short).
If you're used to boarding with soft boots now, you'll have trouble with other boots at first for sure. Or as Jaša says, with board only to easy stuff.

Emm, well that's how I imagined..nasmeh Otherwise, when the weather is good I'll try how it goes in hiking boots too. When I was at the top I thought, what if I descend for a change right in hiking boots and see how it goes, even if worse, but desire for enjoyment in descent always wins, so I prefer to change nasmeh .

Otherwise I've been changing shoes for 7 years already, and will do some more, then maybe someone invents something for us, hahanasmeh
Thanks

I tried boarding in hiking boots and it works without big problems.
Just gotta get a bit used to the "softness" in ankles.

Greetings!
I'm interested which Slovenian peaks are more suitable for snowboarding, in the sense that the whole path is sloped (thus avoid annoying unbinding) and not too technically demanding.
