Touring snowboarding

Hi everyone!

I'm wondering if you could recommend some different peaks/routes suitable for touring snowboarding - meaning on foot up / board down.

Thanks in advance to everyone for all replies.

P.s.: If anyone's looking for a companion for touring snowboarding, contact me on PM.

Stay safe!

There are lots of choices, but it'll sink in more, otherwise take extra gear (boots+snowshoes) and the problem is mostly solved. Approaches over ski areas (Peca) are also ideal, but really either drive or strictly stick to the edge.

No problem walking with boots and snowshoes and skis behind. mežikanje

Peca via ski slope - hm. I'll try.

How's Begunjščica - saw some pics of happy touring skiers there velik nasmeh ?

Hi!

Check: http://razmere.turni-klub-gora.si/ . Surely something for you too. For more check archive on this link. Take those path descriptions as goal. Conditions you know yourself "yesterday" different than "today" and "tomorrow".
LP and good luck!

Splitboard already seen. Didn't convince me. Classic I like more - even if I carry it whole way on back.

Swiss - thanks for link. Such "lists" I'm looking for. nasmeh

Begunjščica central super, Y route to Mav Kamen top, Vrtača Y super, Kredarica little snow else cool, Jalovčev Ozebnik super, Ablanka super, Viševnik little snow, Grintovec cool to where it goes, there you have some touring descents, later more season just startingnasmeh good luck!

Goals or peaks are the same for us with board as for those with touring skis. The key is to pick the right route to the peak that eases the ascent most. Even with snowshoes it's hard to follow a touring skier because the gliding step is much faster. Collect peaks now in winter without long tough access but start ascent quickly. Later swap classic approaches for gully or winter route, no difference anymore because everyone carries skis or board. For conditions TURNIKLUB GORA.

I have nothing against boarders, but I recommend using snowshoes, as you'll struggle to reach certain spots without them.

On Hribi.net "zimski" contacted me. So on Saturday (20.2.2012) we did a loop around Zelenica and Vrtača. Route picture. Shame there wasn't more snow.

And it's true. Snowshoes are handy. cool

On Saturday (25.2.2012) we went from Italian side to Kanin. Then we boarded from Prestreljeniško okno. It was exceptionally warm and beautiful.

Hi,

I'll finally get home next week and me and my girl planned to go boarding on Saturday (2. 3.) and we don't have many enthusiasts around for such activity either - especially for that first part when you have to hike up velik nasmeh

I hear some spring thaws forecasted for end of February, but hope meteorologists flipped some equation and it'll happen only end of March velik nasmeh

Our experiences with Alps are still in infancy - we don't like groomed ski resorts anyway, so we board mostly in our Zasavje hills (which is of course also great and especially peaceful), but we've been in alpine world rarely - we thought to start maybe at Zelenica or similar, need to check and coordinate - other ideas welcome too nasmeh

So if weather and conditions allow, we'll definitely go and I'd be very glad if someone joins nasmeh

But I have one more question for those with more experience. Namely, how good are snowshoes in practice (for now I only have crampons, no snowshoes yet)- especially how they handle/how practical e.g. on very steep ascent?

Nice greetings all and hope to see someone soon velik nasmeh

Just a warning, Zelenica can be very avalanche-prone..

Hi, thanks for warning.

I planned to go only if avalanche risk on their side no higher than 2.
And I already found out that although it looks inviting as footpath, if lots of snow don't use that transport-rescue road. Supposedly it gets covered several times?

Does anyone know about avalanche conditions around Tamar?

Anyway if too high avalanche risk probably means plenty snow also in foothills and hills velik nasmeh

I often board on Pohorje, for longer classic ski touring routes
in western Karavanks (Golica, Dovška Baba), tried Menina too but for me bit too little incline uphill, suitable for beginners though, just watch hidden pasture fences under snow. Recently saw some boarding in Bohinj on meadows above lake, they do it on Pokljuka and above (Viševnik...). Anyway ski touring tracks don't differ much from boarders.

Without snowshoes you'll hardly reach anywhere in current conditions. Last time boarded from below Hajnževo sedlo and it was fantastic.

I'm also planning for the weekend some walk to Pohorje, a bit earlier in the morning. But I'm going with a splitboard.
Anyone up for company anyway?

Hey, I'm also an enthusiastic boarder chick. So far I've always hiked up with boots to the top, carrying the board, but that's too much as longer ascents are tough, you sink into the snow and tire quickly. Very interested in this splitboard variant. Anyone selling one? nasmeh Where to buy it? Any affordable option? (now have 150 cm length). Thanks for tips!

Mokara: Buying a used one in Slovenia you'll need quite some luck, as there are still very few owners. Check e-bay.de or splitboards.eu, although my friend from Austria said it's hard to get even there.
