Bravo, good tour choice. I really like this approach, you climb steeply up to Žmavčarji and then continue along the ravine..

Of course, "plezalčica", not to finish such a magnificent approach along the JJZ ridge would be a "sin" ..."alternative" approaches, or "extravagant" ideas have always suited me ...for a "bonus" we also descended via SS and Repov kot .

When at 4:00 I look towards Menina, a thunderstorm greets me. Yay! Janez picks me up at five, and we both doubt a bit about going to the mountains. Still we go, and over Črnivec the road is dry, the sky above Kamnik peaks clears up. We start from Konc over Žmavčarji, then towards Kotliški graben. The drizzle thins out higher up, but the steepness ensures we don't stay dry. The crossing over the ravine is dry, the pegs still usable. We step onto the beautiful Turska in sunshine, but mist soon envelops the summit. A girl with company on top wonders if it will rain... I confidently reply, no rain! How wrong I was! Towards Sleme Janez tells me it's thundering, I tell him it's a plane! Lightning flashes! On the steep Sleme the sky darkens, and first drops catch us, quickly turning into heavy rain. Good we didn't turn towards Rinke! At the first fixed cables we're already soaked to the skin! Wind gusts get stronger, thunder louder! We decide on quick descent towards Gamsji skret, which was planned anyway. It pours on us like mad, Janez grumbles, the wind lifts the mist just enough to catch the markers for the skret. During descent meniscus pain reminds me I overdid it this week. Worst was during the drop by the cable, which slipped from hands, and I didn't dare load the right leg too much due to pain! Happy to step on the beautiful meadows I laugh, Janez is angry because we look like we were pulled from washing machine without wringing! Rain stops for a moment, then starts pouring again. On the way to the car it strikes me as before, that everyone should sometimes let the rain wash them good! Road to Konc is! Safe travels!

In the thunderstorm the descent over Gams was the only time in my mountain career that I wished I had crampons on my feet in mid-summer....

Yes, sometimes even an early hour doesn't help. In summer I have the rule to be on summit by eleven (thunderstorms), in winter by one (night). I like longest tours in autumn, when the (mountain) day is longest.

Tone, yesterday I should have been at the car by twelve so the thunderstorm wouldn't catch me in these parts we were at the summit before eleven... weather can be unpredictable

In such weather you don't go to such mountains as time rules don't apply. Once I sat on a summit watching someone descending from the neighboring peak. It flashed a bit, then thundered only once! Sadly the young girl is no more, only a memorial plaque on the rock remains! I've been hiking mountains for over 50 years and unfortunately witnessed several very sad stories! And the heroism of descent through Gamsov skret, which is deadly dangerous when wet! I think mountain rescue service should seriously consider charging for rescues, as with such foolish behavior some endanger rescuers' lives, if you don't care about your own. If you go on such heroics, keep it to yourself and don't advertise it, because your inner ego demands it! For all to consider! Nice mountaineering greeting! Tone

Nice that you wrote that Mr. Tone! I don't take the post as showing off, but just insight into what can happen to you, not only in mountains, but also in life! If I could, I'd delete the post now after your comment, but I don't have the option! Sorry for your unfortunate mountain stories! Best regards

Zoran, I think 'Mr. Tone' should have deleted the post before you, since there wasn't even a trace of negativity in it. I wish you lots of joy and luck in the mountains!

Also, meddling unnecessarily in others and lecturing them is inner ego. Even more so if it's known what experiences those others have. Right, Mr. Tone

In my long years of experience, quite a few stories have piled up, of all kinds.. (also cck. 50 years in the mountains) Now in retirement I can pick days when I'm at least 99% sure about the weather. The last storm (unannounced) hit me on the way from Rombon to Kanin. Somewhere below Črnelska špica, Hudim Vršič. Thundered only twice and quite badly. What can you do if it hits unannounced? Even down was wet - pathless to Planina Krnica. lp

Obviously mountain rescuers meddle when we try to tell them not to do it because they endanger us. The day will come when every rescue is paid like abroad and then everyone will think hard how much such foolishness can cost. (in Switzerland no rescues under 12000 E.) Turbo should rethink his lecturing others and his experiences!

I think no comment was meant maliciously... but yesterday's weather forecast was really "way off". It caught us too, albeit on much safer terrain. 2 colleagues are meteorologists and with ever more powerful computers and better software, weather changes are so rapid that models used for decades simply don't hold anymore. Each time they miss like yesterday, they learn something new and the next forecast improves... until a new undetected factor appears. I mean... cases where it's hard to blame someone for the weather are becoming more common.

Just as Trobec said, my comment is in no way malicious and I just want to say that in my long aviation career I want to point out only that there were way too many mountain rescues due to underestimating objective dangers and cockiness! I've dabbled in meteorology as a hobby for years and know how unpredictable weather can be and how quickly you become nature's victim in high mountains. Even the craftiest foxes get trapped! I pass this message to those who think they're top experts and don't get it! Now I'll stop, best regards to all sensible folks LP Tone
