Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji

LidijaJesih18. 09. 2011 19:48:01
For all who want a few hours of persistent leg, arm, eye and brain work: recommended. Circular path starts in Koncu, path unmarked (except upper part from Kotličev to bivouac junction), Kotliški graben partly pathless. Read descriptions carefully, it'll pay off. Žmavčarji already described here, nothing new. Interesting guide description for Kotliški graben junction: above rock step turn right. Junction unmarked, invisible, but I found it first try by luck.jezik Where path turns sharp left to rocks, I went right into grass, crossed right up, about to turn back when found cairn in grass leading through cut bushes up right to grass. Then some cairns to cut wall (old shepherd hut?), then bit by nose bit by desc mainly always up, to dens and gully, along walls. Orientation sense helps, else extra detour like my latvic in first gully. Punishment: scree chew 15 min back upvelik nasmeh. Cairns rare but each welcome. Step with two pegs in last third, toughest part but not too bad, whole path nasty wet/fog/down. Always steep, rocky, crumbly accordingly, parts exposed. KSA guide says guide needed. At exit pondered which gully, chose right (biggest rhubarb), still doubting realized on marked path. Path clear after, sky less so. 15 min clear to cloudy foggy cold windy. Bivouac junction on Veliki Podi worried me (problematic), rushed nonstop over summit down, bit worried admit. Relied on prior walk but thick fog little help. Found cairns to bivouac, last got grateful kiss. Why not mark bivouacs better, for emergencies? Can't find this one in fog/rain w/o knowing. Then down Žmavčarji (knees ungrateful), met locals (beauties), to car. Empty lot, no one on path. Sunday? Season end?zmeden Weather held, shower home.
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji Left Turska gora, right Brana, in between Kotliški graben. View from Žmavčarji in the promising morning1
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji Start of the rocky step (a bit of wire rope and peg towards the top), above which according to descriptions the path turns towards the gully2
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji at the tree below (view already from the return) I decide to turn off the path. Traversing to the right upwards, where I find a hidden marker3
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji This view will convince you that you're going the right way. 4
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji Direction towards the gully, all the time close to the walls. The path: here and there, if at all5
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji Beyond the edge a rocky chute opens to the left, just climb it. Sometimes hands are needed too.6
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji Možiček. I was glad to see them. Rare.7
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji It's steep all the time. The picture shows it somewhat.8
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji when the grassy ledge runs out, we reach the edge. At the edge there is a možiček. We have to go down into the gully and down (this one in the picture, view is upwards)9
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji Hmm. Down here you can slip if not careful.10
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji View back to the most difficult section. Bottom right are the two famous pegs, cross via the ledge you see, left in the picture is the gully to descend. Nice path detail.11
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji Technically out of this nasty part, physically not yet. Direction right, upwards, towards the horns.12
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji View from the top of the path.13
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji Here we join the marked path from Kamniško sedlo to Turska gora.14
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji Famous barrel on the path. Have to go through.15
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji Peaks were closing in, on Turska already in fog. Postponed to first.16
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji Shark teeth? No, but the scree slopes are full of traps17
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji this is how the little men cheered me up, who showed me the path to the Bivouac18
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji this one got a kiss, not because of the shape, out of gratitude, because it showed me .....19
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji bivouac!!! now it can pour20
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji grasses in Žmavčarji. I don't know in which direction they are more strenuous. But you can also go over scree in one part here21
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji the beauty scratched itself and....22
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji ... showed me its ass!23
Turska gora via Kotliški graben and Žmavčarji I hug another beautiful tree with a view of the mountains and the day is perfect24

Nice, commendable, we once had this trail in mind but didn't dare decide as we didn't know how it would turn out, now we know. Maybe sometime in the future.
But we still haven't met ibex on this trail.

Yesterday autumn fairy tale.
Following the "trail" requires constant concentration. Cairns are rare (saw only one).

velik nasmeh; cairns are sometimes more frequent. Not exactly that they were digging ditches, but they were helpful. Nice.

Yes, with cairns it's like that. Smaller ones don't survive winter, bigger ones aren't plentiful elsewhere either. But that one was really in the right place.velik nasmeh

This morning along the path through Kotliški graben. From Žmavčarji onwards fog persisted, so my wife and I only sensed the directionjezen. Along the path (whatever there is of it) we found only three ruined cairns. At Kotliči it cleared up, so we continued along the NW ridge to Brana. We descended to Žagana peč via Kamniško sedlo and Jermanca.

Today above Kotliški graben to Turska gora. Then check of new bivouac under Skuta, crossing Sleme and descent via Gamsov skret to valley.
Saw more cairns in Kotliški graben than last time and added two myself. Pegs in wall still very useful. mežikanje

On Sunday I headed to Kotliški graben, climbed Turska gora and then continued to Rinke. This Kotliški graben impressed me greatly and I'll repeat this trail in the future.

PICTURES and personal impressions from the trail

Video trip report to follow.

Really nicely documented and useful for those who might head there again sometime. Especially the video gives quite a realistic picture of the trail.

Thanks nasmeh really hard at the start because the path is literally invisible but if you follow the description you find it. Details are crucial. In the second part "path" traces and cairns are more visible. Yeah it was super nasmeh

Dead mountaineer found in Turski žleb area

In the Turski žleb area, a dead mountaineer was found in the morning hours. Rescue service members, military helicopter and mountain police viewed the scene, said Celje Police. Found somewhat above Okrešelj, 150m from žleb entrance, PU Celje. STA

Nice autumn fairy tale also today. nasmeh
Ascent along and above Kotliški graben to Turska gora then descent via Žmavčarji to valley.
Fallen trees in forest below Žmavčarji no problem, path following above Kotliški graben with many cairns should be fine. Just find entry...mežikanje

When this view opens up to you, you are already through the annoying dwarf pines.1
The steepness is considerable...2
Little man at the entrance to the gully that takes you over the wall.3
Over smooth slabs towards two spikes.4
One is useful, the other a little less so.5
Beautiful views from the top....before the fog arrived.6
Mists also have their own charm.7
With a gray coat it is also beautiful.8
Magical autumn colors everywhere.9
On the hunting path, the wire has replaced the rope....it serves its purpose.10

Plan one thing, realization another, but most planned was realized.
Park at Jermanca-Konec junction, go past Žagana peč. Shortly after Koncu parking a lammergeier flies over. Hoping to see it again, continue ready for 'snap'. It didn't show again.
Path to Žmavčarji more trodden. Above few m hunting wire turn right seek passages to Kotliški graben. Turned out well - no backtrack or bushwhack.
Known little plateau end two pegs wet. Stones from Brane into gully like cannons, 'stream' roaring. After rock passage just L-R up to marked path junction. Up it to Turska, fog catches first time. Clears soon then engulfs again. At junction decide check Rinki. Over Mala to Štajerska to Koroška. Sky opens more, thought winter gear not in vain go Kranjska too. Only to its top lots snow, other 'sisters' passable. Fog again, wait hoping blows away, then change mind - next time. Down to Kamniško-Koroško sedlo path continue Mali Podi to spot seems right rock rib to bivak (cairns abound, scattered like mushrooms after rain everywhere). At bivak no better, descend to Žmavčarji shining in sun. Fog above.

Towards Mokrica, Kompotela...1
Towards Kotliški graben2

The Roglji in Kotli do not seem very far, but neither are they very close8

Hmm, the traverse is wet. It seems steeper than it really is.10
In between the rock is dry, so no problems11
Down in the middle is a chamois in its element, but I don't know if it can be seen due to the image's small size12

Dr.ejči - did you extend along the ridge to the summit? That tempts me too, but I think no one is up for such 'extravagant' ideas; and maybe I wouldn't go alone anyway. Otherwise... that real Kg still remains for me too (from Konc along or beside the ravine), but now it would be like voluntarily going under the guillotine there.

I didn't meet just the chamois, I also passed by this little one nasmeh
