On Sunday, 5.3.2012 my colleague and I set off on a late afternoon hike to Velika Poljana. The path itself is dry and without any special features. On return to the parking lot in Povlje we found hiking poles of Lafuma brand lying on the ground in front of the car. We stored the poles. Whoever misses them please report to ZS.

Given that walking on mountain trails is not recommended, I allowed myself today to climb to Velika Poljana with snowshoes. I went along the forest track that starts above the weekend houses in Povlje village. At the yellow container I chose the middle path - tractor track. In beautiful sun I ascended gradually, no fallen trees on the path here, but on both sides. Path is safe, recommend only gaiters due to melting snow; snow sinks about ankle-deep. After half-hour walk the path joined the known Dolenčeva path, which is currently impassable due to fallen trees.
Based on my today's experiences this track will replace all other paths to my beloved Velika Poljana for a while. Hut on the pasture open on weekends in good weather. Today too friendly winter caretakers welcomed me with tea. Ričet was super. Trail under feet - no fear here.

Hut on Velika Poljana is closed. As a local mountaineer told me, the previous caretaker sadly passed away. Whoever wants to eat or drink something should go to nearby Mala Poljana, where the hut is already open. Anyway, best to do a circular tour over both pastures. Both paths from Goriče (to Mala and Velika Poljana) are completely cleared.

Dear Žajtar, you are wrong. Hut on Velika Poljana is open all weekends despite the unfortunate death of the caretaker. And they have good food. Even sour milk. Verified.

This year I was up there three times - always on weekends, always closed. Why it is so, the local told me, and I wrote that.
Let's hope they can open soon.

..will have open, unless too much rain/snow..at least that's what she told me.. Worth jumping up if no time for "something more" and much more peace than on neighboring hills (kriška,dobrča,kališe)

From Povelje to Mala and Velika poljana. Path is wonderful, nicely marked. Pity fog and wind at the top.

Yesterday over pl. Javornik to Velika Poljana visiting Robi and Jerneja where we ate well, drank a lot as temps almost summer especially tanning on nice sun

Is the hut at Velika Poljana open only on weekends in the off-season?

Lepenatka, the hut is open only on weekends all year round (from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon). Occasionally it happens, especially during holidays, that the caretakers stay up there longer, a week or two, but that's more exception than rule. Weekends are usually open, only in case of really bad weather they stay in the valley.
