Veliki Lemež

I started at the Dom in Lepena. The path to the Koča at Krn Lakes is ... serpentine.zmeden The army was here, of course. From the lake upwards there is a snow tongue that can be partially (higher up) bypassed. Past the hunting hut I continued to the saddle Čez Potoče. Snow only slightly hinders the path. From the saddle to the right it gets serious. The path is very exposed and "leaning".jezik Sometimes you need to use hands and it is mentally tiring. The ridge has no end, the Lemež summit keeps slipping away.velik nasmeh Overall nice sections.

Can anyone give more precise tips where to go to V. Lemež from E direction above Krn Lakes - any problems due to damage of the approach route?
Any other possible "non-climbing" approach and descent - without going from Čez Potoče (maybe from Zajezerom to peak 1997 m)?

You have a nice approach described on this forum via the saddle Čez Potoče. It is still the same, for descent you can use the variant along military positions, which is also described.

Don't babble, in 2010 Igor Zlodej did this tour and described it here, on hribi.net, in Veliki Lemež section.

At saddle Čez Potoče there is also spring between Griva and Lemež, where during WWI soldiers went for water. Italians from Griva and Austro-Hungarians from Lemež. Here truce applied.

I remember water also somewhere below the hunting hut on planina Zagreben, near some wooden, barely assembled shelter (koliba), under which there was a bench and tables. From there you went straight up to the hunting hut, to the left a bit higher there was a small path (stečina) towards the saddle between V. Lemež and Vogl. Ugh, about 25 years, if not thirty, ago. That shelter was there during all three "explorations" I did from Lepena up, the last one already vegast. In autumn it'll be time to go peek there again, maybe I'll manage Čez Glavo and Riglje back to the valley (Lepena)

Primož, you have exceptionally good taste for your weekend house location. Lepena, or rather the whole Trenta valley is awesome. Enjoy the wonderful Lepena location! nasmeh

The day before yesterday (9.9.) I did a direct ascent to Lemež from the saddle with Debeljak, descended to saddle Čez potoče and from there up to Srednji vrh. Descended past Krnska škrbina, below Batognica and over Velike peske.
The Debeljak - Lemež ridge has its own thread, but since I didn't stick to it exactly, I'll write a short trip description here. Started in Lepena past Dom pri Krnskih jezerih towards Krn, but only to lake start, turned right there. Bypassed lake along the shore and headed to pronounced grassy inlet towards Škrbina saddle. Spent quite a while grinding through that grass, but didn't go to the saddle itself, instead at spruce clump turned left and diagonally left up the grassy tongue. Oriented by spruces on slope and summit photo from last year. When hit trees again, climbed among them to ridge, hardest ascent spots there: steep grass slope nearly vertical for some meters in places. Reached ridge ~200m east of summit, before pronounced gully/couloir south. Didn't continue on ridge, descended into gully and via steep loaded chute back to ridge. Last descent from it, continuation to summit just a stroll - but tricked me with another fore-summit with cairn from that side too nasmeh. From summit to Čez potoče saddle no big issues, ascent to Srednji vrh not very pleasant. Ledges on east side of Krnčica riddled with hidden basins and huge cracks/sinkholes, path over them slow and dangerous. At Srednji vrh suddenly hit markers, followed past Krnska škrbina under Batognica towards Vrh nad Peski. Bypassed it west side (one trodden path) and from Velike peske finally down to marked to Krnsko jezero. Why the detour? Bird stalking paid off on Peske with pleasant surprise of 30+ snowfinches nasmeh
Approximate direction of my approach.1
Ovršje of Lemež, where a distinct gully east of the summit is visible.2
Grassy approach to Škrbina, which I followed to the first spruces.3
View of Šmohor and Vrh nad Peski in the background.4
Spruces above which I turned left.5
Path continuation, new orientation point were the trees in the middle of the photo again.6
The thick tree.7
The steepness increases and in places the vertical sections could not be avoided.8
The steepness was too much to cross directly to the gully, so I climbed to the ridge.9
Vrh nad Peski and Krn.10
On the ridge, in front is the part I had to avoid.11
The bypass is visible on the left half of the image as the rightmost of the gullies.12
Back on the ridge, view to Kanin.13
Towards Bavški Grintavec, in the background the ridge of Loške stene.14
Edelweiss were still blooming.15
The ridge to the top is pure poetry... and on a perfect autumn day!16
Chamois with young ones just below the summit.17

The mentioned saddle and Griva above it.23
At the saddle Čez potoče, view towards the north.24
Even the silver krvomočnice were still blooming.25
The entire ridge from the saddle to Lemež.26
On the wonderful ridge of Krnčica.27
View from Srednji vrh to Kanin, Polovnik and planina Zaprikraj.28

Peak above Peski, this time closer up.30
Group of elementary schoolchildren from Ajdovščina who dashed from Krn Lakes to Krn and Batognica. Ours complained at school if we went to Rašica...31
Unusual habitat at Peski.32
One of 30 rock ptarmigans that I disturbed during the descent.33
As timid as always - nothing.34
The flock was resting on the steep slope, but when I disturbed them, they went over the edge.35
Idyllic end of the tour at Na Polju.36

24.08.2022. First part of our path in Šunikov vodni gaj. Known to us there. Went last year to 1717m. But now only to monument of Austro-Hungarian 4th Bosnian-Herzegovinian infantry regiment below planina Zagreben. Then turn left in last serpentine bend. Path barely visible here. To hunting hut on planina Zagreben. Further unknown. Head towards 1717m. At start path still faintly traceable. Later gone. And turning left below Jastovec need to seek passages. Used to such paths. Our direction saddle Potoče. Find some grenades. Still whole. In pieces. After so many years. To saddle didn't look so far. But drags. Below by big boulders extensive snow patch left. We cross it and steep to saddle. Hours ticking. Last part awaits peak to peak to final Veliki Lemež. Here Renato spotted two adders in grass, really no one bothers them. Still hid. Check some caverns along and finally after long hours on top. Probably happiest that day. For descent along couloir to Krnskim. Then to Lepena. But car 2.5km further in Šunikovem gaju. Darkness caught us in Lepena. Definitely longest tour this year in near pathless terrain. Met no one. Actually just one chamois.
here we start in the morning at seven. 1
over the footbridge. 2
through the forest, where the path is visible. The gullies higher up are dry. 3
to the monument, known. 4
light from the sky. 5

Soon we'll be at the summit.1
