Veliko Kladivo (Košuta)

Started late... past planina Pungrat and up to Škrbina. On Škrbina it was a bit windy, I put on crampons and took the ice axe in my hands. First look at the ridge told me that maybe I wouldn't reach the summit of Kladivo. I went to check and the path just below the ridge on the south side could be traversed across a few snow patches. On the summit of Kladivo I waited for sunset, then descended via the other path below Malo Kladivo. It can be seen that it is possible without winter gear, for more on conditions see the pictures.

From Pungrat to Toplar and over Malo Kladivo back down is possible without crampons. Weather fantastic.

Has anyone been in recent days to Veliko Kladivo or Veliki vrh past Kofce?

Any peculiarities on the path?

Hi

According to the picture posted on Facebook on V. Vrh there is frozen snow, but not too deep as rocks and some grass are visible.

Today I climbed Veliko Kladivo from planina Pungrat via Šija on the direct uphill path. Conditions were good, winter gear mandatory of course. To the saddle between Mali and Veliko Kladivo with small crampons, then put on real crampons and took ice axe, as snow on final ascent to summit is frozen. To saddle not much snow on slope, but small crampons allow safer step even on dry grass. Can't drive car all the way to Pungrat on slightly snowy but passable road, as ca 200m before pasture fallen spruce across road. Obviously result of yesterday's gale-force wind.

We went to Veliko Kladivo then along whole ridge to Veliki vrh.

Crampons useful. At top of Kladivo frozen hard snow. Friend's phone fell from hand and 'rode' down snow over cliff to Austria.

Nice day, nice weather, nice hike. Damn the phone, as long as all alive and healthy nasmeh

5.7. After long time Barbara joined me again. Started at Mrzli studenec and via Šija first to Veliko kladivo.
Snacked a bit and went to Malo kladivo. Spotted first hikers. Continued to Kofce gora. Planned only that, but decided to go to Veliki vrh too. On return stopped at Toplar.
Weather super, more and more hikers. Around 11 on Kofce all full. Even stopped at hanging bridge in Dovžanova soteska.

Just to check for boletes but all picked already. Also walked over in many places. Road to Jelendol closed 7-17 and need to go via much longer forest path. That road in awful condition, for someone with a Clio worth a couple of 100 euros no problem, goes like a tank. Banged me good, no need for massage for a week. Up via west path to Kladivo, nice weather, bit windy otherwise warm and without long sleeves. Soon returned back toward spruce forest, if I could find more, only one. Then to car and back via Jelendol.

Today nice circular route over Veliki vrh, Toplar, Kofce gora, Malo Kladivo to Veliko Kladivo. Descent to Šija and on to Kofce and start at Mrzli studenec. Tour offers wonderful views. Path itself no special features, some snow patches on path, can bypass without problem. Except unmarked path to Šija pasture quite damaged by avalanche in one section.

Today a short circular: Mrzli studenec, Pl. Šija, Veliko Kladivo, Malo Kladivo, Kofce and MS ( nasmeh

not Murska Sobota, but Mrzli studenec)
Path BP, snow remnants only in some shady spots and hollows. Weather partly sunny with little breeze - just right to dry the "sweat" zavijanje z očmi

. Met quite a few hikers and among them quite a few very pleasant ones nasmeh

Also: road from Jelendol to Mrzli studenec OK passable.

At the top of Veliko Kladivo; I am posting the photo with the permission of the lady in the picture

The only short section of the path where there is still snow. But no problem to cross

Well I think it's ok, as far as I can tell from view; but didn't walk there. On other side, saw some snow in last part of path to Veliki vrh; well, didn't walk there either. Maybe someone who was there these days will report. BestF

Today hiked Podljubelj - Veliki vrh - Kladivo - Tržič. Snow is just remnants here and there along the Košuta ridge on the shady side. Lp Dejan

From starting point (parking below Matizovcem) we climbed to planina Kofce, continued along ridge to top of Kofce gora and via Mali to Veliko Kladivo. Returned via Škrbina and across planine Pungrat, Šije, Ilovice and Kofce back to parking. Path passable without issues. More at: https://www.gore-ljudje.si/Kategorije/Novosti/kladivo-2

Was possible to drive by car to starting point around 1200m. Past Šije and partly dry to Kladivo. On ridge cold and windy, didn't stay long at top. Went towards Kofce gora and then down wide gully back to start.

good road and no signs I hope it stays that way under Košuta

Yesterday conquered two peaks of Košuta ridge. Štar was of course at parking at Matizovcu. Then towards Kofce. Original goal Veliki vrh, but peak hidden in fog, so at junction to Kofčev vrh decided to go to Veliko Kladivo. Kofčev vrh done casually. Path bypasses Mali Kladivo. Then comes Veliko Kladivo. Down unmarked path to planina Šija. Grass not dry even by 2pm. Downhill path very slippery. Needed caution not to slip. Easy to twist ankle.

The parking lot was still empty at half past five in the morning.

I gladly go to Kofce, otherwise to the other for štruklji.

Unfortunately it suddenly fogged up later.

Horses also graze on the mountain pasture.

30 minutes to Veliki vrh summit from this junction. Here due to fog I decide to go to Veliko Kladivo.

On the way to Kofce summit I ran into a fox with cubs.

We are somehow on the border with Austria.

Down an unmarked path towards Planina Šija.

Road to start normally drivable, up via Frata past Šije to Kladivo. Didn't sink much, as cooler today. Hour before small avalanche on steepest sunniest part. On top slight breeze, not cold, descended ascent path and to one lower peak. Then heard cracking from avalanche on eastern Košuta ridge.

To summit from farm Male in village Sele - Srednji Kot along hard-to-follow path and pathless in Škrbina area. Hardest is to find junction of path from marked trail Malejeva planina - Koschutahaus.
