Zajmenove peči

ljubitelj gora2. 04. 2017 21:09:57
From Podljubelj I continue driving towards Matizovec... but just a little above the sawmill or above the weekend houses I park the car at a suitable place. I gear up and head up the steep forest to the SW ridgelet. I stick to the ridgelet the whole time, ignoring the right and left forest clearings, and when I'm high enough I spot on the right through the spruce thicket grassy areas. Up the grassy gully and under the overhanging wall to the right, through steep scree it leads me one floor higher. Then up steep grasses to the Košuta ridge. On the ridge I continue climbing to the east, then I return and climb one more peak on the ridge. I descend along the approach route, lower down sticking to the forest clearings.

Nicely described. That tower really looks very demanding already from below.
Well, now I know someone has climbed it.velik nasmeh

Yesterday via the so-called Zajmen Crags to V. Vrh, the westernmost part of the Košuta ridge, which due to its wildness and impassability gets few visitors. Detailed description is already given in the above link from M&M, which mostly holds true.

The first part is dedicated to fighting through dwarf pines, which accompany you all the way to the towers. Individual rock sections and grassy patches are a real balm. No shortcuts through the dwarf pines. The towers are a chapter of their own. Here the law of rottenness, exposed climbing and crumbly traverses applies. Best to tackle them along the ridge with climbing up to grade III. The most problematic is the exit from the notch to the eastern tower where it smells like a IV. The eastern tower is rottenness itself. Difficulties end once you're on the green meadows of Zajmen Crags and to V. Vrh it's just a walk.

The ridge is 'wildly hairy', rotten and exposed, which gives it its own charm again, no rushing here..everything you grab you grab three times, whoever tackles it fully from Vranček to Vel. Vrh should be aware that the route won't be easy!

Some photos from today's ascent to Zajmen Crags, which didn't end as planned.
Right on descent from the summit a snake bit my hand.
After a few hours of observation at UKC Ljubljana, they confirmed no venom was released and I can go home.
Many thanks to all rescuers, UKC Ljubljana staff and the helicopter crew for their help.
Best, Tadej

Tadej you were lucky in misfortune. Cool-headed, without panic you reacted to the shock of the snake bite. Did this unpleasant incident happen when you were holding onto rocks during descent? Be careful and best wishes ahead! Lp

Get well soon! You must have seemed friendly to her so she didn't release venom. Probably a viper??

I hope nothing worse happened to anyone, I wondered yesterday a bit after 11. On return from Vrtača I saw a helicopter at this end. Probably just took you away. Tadej, all's well that ends well, all good. Lp and good luck.

Thanks everyone for the nice wishes.
When I started descending the steep grasses, I leaned my hand on the slope for balance, having previously checked that no snake was there. Obviously I placed my thumb slightly aside from the other fingers and accidentally touched a snake hidden nearby, which I didn't even see at the bite. From the finger blood flowed in two wounds about 3 mm apart, the hand became tingling. Then I called 112 and followed instructions.

In my opinion a bit lazy due to autumn frost.nasmeh Otherwise snake doesn't always inject venom on bite.
Good it ended like that. These reptiles in mountains more and more. I think I read somewhere that there were already 20 registered snake bites this year. And in grasses most dangerous, especially going up steep terrain where it can bite upper body.

Yeah, there are still plenty of snakes, because they seek sunny spots to warm up, but there will be gradually fewer of them, probably just an accidental touch when the snake pulled away or just warned

Yesterday I walked the rest of the path where two years ago I planned to descend.
That is, from the road to Matizovec to the junction with the path where I reached the ridge two years ago.
A few more pics.
