Hello.
Is the shelter open this weekend?
Can a bed be reserved when it's open or first come first served?
Tried asking by email but no reply.
Thanks

The male part of the family gave up valley comfort - Nute**i and WIFI and headed to the hills nasmeh It was on Tuesday. Left the car at Vršič, then up-down-up-down to the Shelter. Back directly to the valley past Flori(ja) to the main road, then by bus back. We chose a very good day with high cloud cover so it wasn't too hot.

On Thursday, 24.6.2021 after 30 years again from Vršič to shelter below Špičkom. No crowd at Vršič. The guy collecting parking fee finds you quickly. Didn't meet anyone on the whole path. More fallen trees on the path, so we did some gymnastics. Views initially clear, then it clouded over. The path is walked much faster than written on the sign at Vršič. In the last hour of walking crossed several non-problematic snowfields. Just below the shelter it's still all white. Due to melting snow and sinking we rather turned towards the big boulders "eye level" with the shelter and admired. I think we surprised a larger marmot, which with a loud whistle warned that we are coming. Solitary places, with plenty of wonderful views and peace. Otherwise very hot. nasmeh
start of the path at Vršič1
The path is well marked all the way2
Sun and sky blue towards Prisank3
On the path there are also two fixed cables. Otherwise caution is needed at several places4
Above the trail5
View into Trenta and the peaks above it - Travnik, Plaski Vogel, Špičje...6
First view of the mighty giant - Bavški Grintavec7
Bushes are blooming, on the left the initial part of the ridge above Zadnja Trenta to Trentski Pelc8
View of the extensive scree at the bottom of Zadnja Trenta9
From Pelci to Špička, Veliki Ozebnik, Jalovška škrbina to Šit10
The path is well marked, there is a lot of dry leaves on it, it doesn't seem to be visited very often.11
Dry spring.12
Over non-problematic snow patches.13
Lush flowers.14
The snow can often be avoided.15
Near the shelter.16
Almost face to face with the shelter - at the big boulders. Still a lot of snow in the basin.17

And to the right.19

07.11. 2022. This year somehow the trip didn't come up in the summer months. I decided to go from Zapodno past Špička and then further towards Jalovec. Although it seemed to me that due to newly fallen snow I wouldn't reach the summit. I used winter gear around 2300 m where the snow starts. In shady spots it was frozen. Since the day was warm the snow was melting. In the morning in Zapodno only two degrees. Continued to height 2440m. Then when you're there you see the real conditions. I turned back. Someone in front of me also turned exactly there because further it was demanding. Snow didn't hold much despite using winter gear. Descent to the valley really pleasant when leaves rustle under feet. Day cloudless and with little wind.
I went on the right side from the sign onwards below Mali kot. Markings very poorly visible.1
past the hunting hut. Higher up, the path from Vršič joins.2
Larches have lost their color.3
A day without clouds.4
Špička is visible.5
and Škrbina za Gradom. Familiar.6
Here everything is snow-free.7
Očak is snow-covered.8
But the day is really nice.9

The higher I go, the more snow there is.11
I use winter gear.12
Snow-dusted peaks.13
Far visibility.14
To the other side.15
Still, I expected less snow.16
I only met two hikers.17
One said that he is going to this peak.18
perhaps it is Goličica19

This is how it looks under the summit side.21
otherwise always visible.22
We counted the traffic. There weren't many of us.23
I know the path well.24
the hardest part is behind me.25
right Srebrnjak. In the middle Trentski Pelc. Left probably Plešivec.26

Beautiful tour even without summit. True that some parts of the path or key junctions are unmarked, which can get many into trouble. Just like on Sunday we descended from Šmihelovec and Zagorelec along the hunting trail to planina Zapotok. With great difficulties we caught the right track in the last minutes of the day.

Isn't that descent to pl. Zapotok unmarked anyway???

I didn't even worry about the summit. You go and then see how and what. To Zagorelec and Šmihelovec not marked. But the little path to Zagorelec is nicely visible. Days are short now and you have to take that into account. I haven't gone that path from the sign for planina Zapotok yet. But I've seen the junction several times when descending there. So I don't know the condition of the path. Maybe sometime I'll go there too.nasmeh
Branch-off somewhere in the forest when going from Zapodna.1
Another signpost, but I don't know if the walking times are exactly right.2
