Bašelj - Sveti Lovrenc (Bašelj) (via Gradišče)

Access to starting point:
A) From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Kranj - east, and then we continue driving in the direction of Jezersko. When we get to Preddvor we leave the main road and we continue driving left towards the center of the mentioned settlement, from there we follow the signs for settlement Bašelj. When we get to Bašelj, at the spot where the main road makes a long left turn, we leave it and we continue driving straight in the direction of Gamsova pot. We continue driving on a narrow asphalt road which leads us between the houses and along stream Belica. We park on a parking lot by Tourism Association Bašelj.
B) From highway Jesenice - Ljubljana we go to the exit Kranj - west and at the first junction we continue left. Further, we drive through the underpass below the highway, and then we get to a roundabout, from where we continue driving in the direction of Golnik. The path ahead leads us through the settlement Mlaka pri Kranju, and at the end of the settlement, we continue right in the direction of the settlement Srakovlje. Next follows driving through Srakovlje, Spodnja Bela, Srednja Bela, Zgornja Bela (in Zgornja Bela we join the road from Preddvor) to Bašelj, where the main road makes a long left turn, we leave it and we continue driving straight in the direction of Gamsova pot. We continue driving on a narrow asphalt road which leads us between the houses and along stream Belica. We park on a parking lot by Tourism Association Bašelj.

Path description:
From the starting point at log cabin of tourism association Bašelj we continue on the forest road closed for public traffic, which leads us by the stream Belica. At first we walk by a football and basketball field, and then we already get to the first crossing of the path Gamsova pot, where the path branches off to the left towards the church of St. Lovrenc, mountain hut Dom pod sv. Lovrencem, it is also possible to continue towards Storžič, Krničarjeva koča na planini Javornik, Mali and Veliki Poljani...
From the mentioned crossing we still continue the ascent on a macadam road which is moderately ascending through the forest or partly through bushes. After a few minutes, we get to the turning point of the forest road, where the footpath towards Kališče continues right over a stream and slightly to the left continues the path Gamsova pot, which leads to Gradišče and further to sv. Lovrenc as well as the path to Kališče along the forest road, Kališče past hospital Košuta and Kališče along the ridge of Kisovec. We continue on a wide cart track which is ascending towards the nearby water catchment. Before the water catchment we leave the wide cart track and again continue slightly left, on the path where the Gamsova pot continues. Further, we ascend for a few minutes on a steeper cart track, when it ends we continue right on a less distinct but relatively well-beaten path, which ascends through the forest. Higher up the footpath partly vanishes in some spots, and we follow the otherwise rare yellow-white blazes, which mark Gamsova pot. We ascend through the forest for a few minutes, then at one bend we reach another forest road which we follow to the right (left Laško). On the macadam road we walk some 10 meters and we are already at the next crossing, where the path to St. Lovrenc branches off to the left.
From the mentioned crossing, we walk on the road only a few steps, then on the right, by the sign which marks a private parking spot, we continue right on a beaten footpath, on which in a minute or two of further walking we get to the top of Gradišče, where a smaller wooden cottage stands.
From Gradišče we return to the forest road or a few more steps back, then from the crossing we continue on the cart track in the direction of sv. Lovrenc. The cart track first leads above the nearby gully and then signs lead us left on the path which first diagonally descends into the gully, crosses it and on the other side ascends through a slightly exposed passage, where especially when wet greater caution is needed. The exposed part is short, so it does not cause any special problems. The path ahead passes into the forest, where it crosses initially even steeper slopes, then with a few shorter ascents and descents brings us to the marked path which leads from sv. Lovrenc towards Storžič, Kališče, mountain pasture Javornik...
When we step on the mentioned marked path we follow it to the left, at first still a little downwards. After a short descent, we get to a marked crossing, from where we continue straight in the direction of sv. Lovrenc (left Bašelj). There follows a few minutes' moderate ascent through the forest, then we arrive from the forest onto a larger meadow, in the middle of which stands the church of sv. Lovrenc and from which a beautiful view opens up.
