Brezno - Kapunar / Kapunerkogel (along Remšniški potok)

Access to starting point:
From the road Maribor - Dravograd we drive to the settlement Brezno, where we park in the settlement. Best at the cemetery near the parish church of St. Mary of the Assumption.

Route description:
From the parking lot, we walk to the main road and carefully cross it at the pedestrian crossing. On the other side of the road, we continue right and continue on the asphalt path, which continues between the Drava River and the main road. After a few minutes, at the bus stop we return to the main road, cross it once again carefully, and then head onto the side road, which climbs past some houses and where we notice the first mountain signpost for Remšnik.
At the right turn, we leave the road and continue straight on the marked path, which continues along the Remšniški potok stream. Higher up, we go over a small bridge and ascend on the footpath past a house; behind the house the road widens into a cart track, and a little higher into a macadam road. This is followed by a somewhat longer ascent along the macadam road, which climbs beside the small waterfalls and rapids of the Remšniški potok stream.
Higher, we arrive at a weekend cottage, where we turn onto the narrower right road, which we follow past another house to the right turn, where we leave the road. Here we go slightly right onto the marked footpath (right along the road homestead Spodnji Golen) and steeply ascend through the forest; after the Spodnji Golen farm we reach a cart track, which we follow to the left. For a short time we ascend along the forested ridge, then the blazes lead us left onto the slope, where the path levels out. After a few minutes of traversing, near a house we reach another road, but we go right and ascend noticeably again. We then follow this road to the church of St. Jurij on Remšnik.
We bypass the church on the left side and continue past the logbook box, POŠ Remšnik to the nearby crossroads, from where we go straight ahead (right road to Brezno).
From the crossroads we also ascend past the chapel and soon arrive at the next crossroads, from which we continue straight toward Kapunar (left village Vas). We continue past a few more houses, from which a nice view opens back toward the church of St. Jurij; the road then enters the forest, through which it continues for a few minutes. When we leave the forest we go past a few more houses, then arrive at the Helbel farm, where the path splits.
We continue straight (right to St. Pankracij past homestead Zgornji Kočnik) and follow the blazes. Higher up we also follow the blazes, while road turn-offs lead to nearby homesteads.
At homestead Zgornji Murn we reach a marked junction, where we join the path that starts at OMP Remšnik and continue left toward Kapunar.
The road then gradually turns left and brings us to the Slanik farm in a few minutes, where it temporarily levels out. From the farm we continue for a short time with nice views over part of the Drava Valley and Pohorje, then the road returns to the forest and takes us to the church of St. Urban.
From the church we continue along the road, then before the Buzenik farm continue right onto the cart track, which takes us past the chapel into the forest. Along the cart track we ascend to the state border in a few minutes, where we come very close to the Austrian path.
We continue along the Slovenian side of the state border, where at the wooden cross the Austrian path turns somewhat more to the right. After a few minutes of ascent the paths approach each other again and then run parallel to the hunting cross, where our path turns somewhat to the left. A few more minutes of walking follow, then we arrive at the amateur radio operators' hut on Kapunar, where there is a logbook box and from which a nice view opens onto the Slovenian side.
From the hut we continue slightly right in the direction of the Kapunerhütte hut, then at a suitable spot leave the marked path and ascend to the summit of Kapunar along one of several poorer footpaths that lead to the top.
