From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Ljubelj (Tržič), and then we continue driving in the direction of Celovec / Klagenfurt. After Ljubelj tunnel the road starts descending, and on the Austrian side we follow it to the first left turn, where old Ljubelj road branches off to the right. We park on an appropriate place by the crossroad, or we can also park higher on the Austrian side of the former border crossing Ljubelj.
Path description:
From the starting point, we go on the old Ljubelj road which is with a traffic sign closed for public traffic. The road at first moderately ascends over two zig-zags, and then continues along the stream to the ruins of former church of St. Lenart, by which stands a little bigger religious symbol. Here the road turns to the left and gradually goes away from the valley. From the road then nice views start opening on Palec and other surrounding peaks. The road ahead leads past a smaller crossroad, where we continue sharply right on "main" road, and then in a moderate ascent we cross steep slopes (danger of falling stones, or in the winter time avalanche and slipping). Higher, the road makes few more zig-zags, and then it brings us to a marked crossing, where we continue to the left where a marked footpath branches off towards Košutica / Loibler Baba. And further on the road is 10 more minutes of walking to the mountain hut Koča na Ljubelju.
From the crossing, we continue on a footpath through the forest, which is mostly ascending and after approximately 30 minutes of walking from the end of the road brings us on the border ridge. The path on the ridge isn't too steep but the slopes on which we walk are steep, therefore especially in wet a great caution is needed. In some parts we also get help from fixed safety gear and a ladder. Forest then becomes thinner and the path brings us on pastures of Grunt. Grunt is an indistinct peak on the path on which we walk.
Here from the right joins the path from concentration camp, and we continue straight on the ridge and by the border fence. After a short ascent, the path brings us to a marked crossing.
We continue left over the fence following the signs Hainschgraben / Hajnžev graben.
On Austrian side on a marked path we at first slightly descend, and then the path turns to the right and it crosses the fence.
We continue towards the east on a footpath which runs below the ridge of Košutica and it brings us on a saddle Dovjakovo sedlo. On a grassy saddle, which is situated between Košutica and Lokovnikov Grintovec we continue left on the ridge by the fence upwards. At first the path runs for a short time through the forest and then we cross the fence and we start ascending through dwarf pines. Poorly beaten and a little overgrown path then most of the time runs by the ridge through dwarf pines and soon it brings us on a panoramic peak.
