Access to starting point:
A) From Kranjska Gora over the mountain pass Vršič or Predel we drive to Bovec, where we park at the bottom station of the circular cabin cable car to Kanin (the cable car is located near the gas station). Then we buy a ticket and take the cable car to D station.
B) From the Primorska side we first drive into the valley of the Soča River and then through Tolmin and Kobarid we arrive in Bovec, where we park at the bottom station of the circular cabin cable car to Kanin (the cable car is located near the gas station). Then we buy a ticket and take the cable car to D station.
Path description:
From D station we head slightly left on the path in the direction of Kanin and the mountain hut (slightly right Prestreljenik and Rombon). Initially we walk on the ski slope route, then the path splits. Slightly to the right continues the path to Visoki Kanin and the path towards the window in Prestreljenik, we continue slightly to the left and along the foot of the scree we walk to the foot of a smaller wall. Here steel cables appear with the help of which we ascend the technically demanding part. After approximately 15 minutes the steepness eases, the panoramic path then continues with some shorter ascents and descents, on exposed parts where the path runs above cracks or chasms, safety gear still helps us. Such a path, which continues across the world of the Kanin poljes, we then follow to the bivouac, from which in a few steps we descend to Dom Petra Skalarja na Kaninu.
