Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, take the Ljubelj (Tržič) exit, then continue driving towards Ljubelj. Just before the petrol station in Bistrica pri Tržiču, leave the main road and continue right towards Tržič. Continue through Tržič towards Dolžanove soteske, then at the end of the town continue right towards Lom pod Storžičem and Grahovše. At the end of Grahovše village, the asphalt ends, and we follow the gravel road towards Dom pod Storžičem. This gravel road, steeper in the upper part, we follow to the parking lot near Dom pod Storžičem.
Route description:
From the parking lot continue along the road that continues along the right side of the nearby Planina Jesenje. The road soon turns right and begins to ascend gently. A little higher we cross a scree slope, then we arrive at a junction where we go along the left road towards Poljane. The path then begins to ascend gently again along the gravel road, which takes us to the next junction, where we continue along the right road (direction Mala Poljana). Further on the road becomes worse and gradually takes us to a small stream located in the middle of the forest. After the stream we turn left onto the cart track and begin to ascend more steeply along it. After approximately 20 minutes of ascent along the cart track we come out of the forest and step onto Mala Poljana, from where a nice view opens towards the south.
From here continue left following the signs for Velika Poljana. Further we walk along a wide path, first through the forest, which narrows a little before the pasture and turns into a steep meadow. Here there is avalanche danger in winter. After that the path ascends once more for a few steps and takes us to the pasture. To the hut, however, we must descend a few meters down the pasture.
Starting point - Mala Poljana 1:00, Mala Poljana - Velika Poljana 0:15.

Discussion about the trip Dom pod Storžičem - Velika Poljana (by road)

Brane V.-today was here when I went to Storžič - this path is not described. Drive by car to the village Gojzd above Križe. Leave the vehicle at the church in the village. Above the village, the signpost directs us to Velika Poljana. We walk two hours. We go over the so-called Ježa. Several exposed spots are bridged with three fixed cables. Hikers use this path a lot. Suitable for any morning or afternoon.

From Dom pod Storžičem there are two paths to Velika Poljana. If you stand in front of the hut door and look ahead, you see two signs on a tree indicating two paths: one right along the road, the left leads past a weekend house, from where it's steep at first, then eases. When the track turns steeply left uphill, watch for markers pointing right downhill. Descend slightly, then follow signs through the forest to Mala Poljana, from where Velika Poljana is not far. The hut at the top is open weekends, even in winter, the friendly warden told me.

Perhaps just this notice for all who will stop by Dom pod Storžičem: Since early May there's a new keeper there, the whole team (family crew) is very pleasant, friendly, food varied and very tasty! A group of 16 of us stopped there last week and we were extremely pleasantly surprised by the big positive change in this hut. Recommend!

It's been a long time since anyone wrote anything. After yesterday's really unpleasant ascent to Dobrča, of course via the shortest and steepest one, today I decided to visit Mala and Velika Poljana, just to stretch my muscles before tomorrow's 12-hour shift. Sometimes it's nice to take an "easy" path, eating forest strawberries along the way. Very friendly caretakers in both huts. It's also nice a bit lower down.
