Between Trenta and Bovec, near the village of Soča, a road branches off to Lepena. We follow this fully asphalted road to the parking lot at the Dom v Lepeni mountain hut.
Path description:
From the Dr. Klement Jug House in Lepena we continue on a wide marked path in the direction of the Krn Lakes. After a few minutes of walking, the wide and not too steep path splits into two parts. The left one, which is somewhat steeper, is the usual one; the right one, gentler and somewhat longer, is suitable for small children and the elderly. Both paths mostly ascend through the forest to the upper station of the cableway and cross each other several times along the way. From the upper station of the cargo cableway, we continue on the same path, which gently ascends along a wide transport road that quickly brings us to the snow height measurement (every year in April). From here the road starts to descend and quickly brings us past the turn-off to Velika Baba to the next junction, where we leave the road and continue left downhill on a footpath that brings us in a few minutes to the Dom pri Krnskih jezerih hut (if we continue on the road, we bypass the mountain hut).
From the hut we continue straight in the direction of Krn and Krn Lake on a gentle path to which soon joins the path that bypasses the mountain hut. We continue past a shepherd's hut, behind which we reach the next junction, where we continue left in the direction of Komna and Mali Šmohor (right Krn). The wide and gentle path quickly brings us past the turn-off to Mali Šmohor to the next junction.
This time we continue right on a somewhat less trodden path in the direction of Prehodci. The path ahead ascends along an old mule track, where after a half-hour ascent we reach the path from the Koča na planini Razor hut toward Krn. We reach the mentioned path approximately 100 m west of the marked junction at the Prehodci saddle.
We continue right in the direction of Krn (left Prehodci 2 minutes) and continue on a gentle and very panoramic path. The path ahead gradually brings us from the plateau terrain to steep eastern slopes, from which a nice view opens onto the Tolmin side (the area is called Na Tminskem). The path then turns somewhat to the right and gradually brings us to a smaller high-alpine valley. Here it starts to ascend more steeply and after approximately 20 minutes of further walking brings us to a large monument to those who fell in World War I.
At the mentioned monument the marked path turns sharply to the right, but we leave it right there and continue on a track that starts descending between the monument and Mali Peski (peak on the right). Less trodden but well-followable, the track quickly descends to the foot of Mali Peski, where we step onto a long scree slope, which we cross diagonally to the other side, where at the foot of Škofič a path (old mule track) from the Lašca pasture joins. Here we continue right uphill and ascend along a well-visible but completely overgrown mule track on the slopes of the aforementioned Škofič. Ahead we gently ascend along the mule track for some time, then, when it gets closest to the south, we leave it and continue the ascent over pathless terrain (ascent direction is southwest), so that we reach the ridge between Škofič and Rdeči rob. Once we reach the ridge we continue left along an initially gentle path to which almost imperceptibly joins from the right the path over the grassy ledge that comes from the Leskovica pasture or Sleme. The path ahead steeply ascends along the edge of the precipitous ridge and brings us in 3 minutes of further walking to Rdeči rob.
