Access to starting point:
A) We drive to Črna na Koroškem, then follow the signs for Koprivna and Podpeca. For some time we drive along the river Meža, then from the crossroad go right in the direction of Podpeca, Dom na Peci and Koča na Pikovem. In Podpeca the asphalt ends, and we follow the signs for Dom na Peci. Higher, on the saddle Vrh šteng, the road from Mežica also joins from the right, we still follow the signs for Dom na Peci, in some parts we also notice signs "avtocesta" (highway). We continue driving on a macadam road, at the last crossroad we follow the signs for the parking lot. We follow the mentioned road to its end, where we park at the Jakobe parking lot.
B) We drive to Luče (to here from Mozirje or from Kamnik over the pass Volovljek (Kranjski Rak)), then continue driving towards Logarska dolina. In the village Solčava we leave the main road towards Logarska dolina and continue driving right in the direction of Podolševa, pass Spodnje Sleme and Črna na Koroškem. Further the road loses the asphalt surface, and after a few kilometers at the crossroad in Podolševa we turn right towards Črna na Koroškem. The road, which further mostly ascends transversely, brings us after some time to the pass Spodnje Sleme. From the pass the road starts descending, and we follow it in the direction of Črna na Koroškem. When after a few kilometers we descend into the valley, at the crossroad we turn right towards Črna na Koroškem (left Koprivna). On the main road we descend towards Črna na Koroškem, and the road first leads past the turn-off into the Tople valley, a little lower also to the turn-off of the road towards Podpeca, Koča na Pikovem and Dom na Peci. We continue on the mentioned road, which quickly brings us to Podpeca.
C) We drive to Mežica, where we follow the signs for Peca. Further we drive towards the border crossing Mežica, still before the border crossing we turn left onto the road in the direction of Peca. Higher, on the saddle Vrh šteng, the road from Podpeca also joins from the left, and we follow the signs for Dom na Peci, in some parts we also notice signs "avtocesta" (highway). We continue driving on a macadam road, at the last crossroad we follow the signs for the parking lot. We follow the mentioned road to its end, where we park at the Jakobe parking lot.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue following the signs to Dom na Peci and continue the path on a cart track right upward. After a short ascent, we come to a junction, where we continue right and continue ascending on a cart track. The cart track then gradually becomes less steep and we soon leave it. The blazes lead us left on a footpath, on which we then ascend through the forest for some time. The path through the forest then brings us again to a narrower cart track, where we continue right and in approximately 5 minutes of further walking reach the Dom na Peci.
From the hut we continue following the signs for the summit of Peca. Initially in the ascent we cross the slopes below Mala Peca, then the path brings us out of the forest onto a grassy ridge, where a nice view opens up on the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The path further ascends up the meadow and brings us to a junction.
We head left following the signs »Zelo zahtevna pot« (very demanding path) (right easier path). From the junction the path then crosses the slopes towards the northwest and soon brings us to the first fixed protections. Further the path turns right and very steeply ascends alongside the fixed protections upward. A short slightly exposed traverse follows, then a few more steep ascents along the steel cable. The demanding part of the path soon ends and a short ascent follows through a slope vegetated with dwarf pines. From the dwarf pines the path brings us to a grassy slope, where we soon come to a path junction, where the easier path joins from the right.
We continue left and only the last ascent to the summit of Peca on an undemanding slope follows.

Yesterday we did this path on Peca with the family. We went up the climbing path and it took us 1 hour and three quarters to the top. We went with children 10 and 11 years old, slowly, took lots of pictures and had nice weather. On the way back we got rain at the hut so we arrived quite wet at the car. The rain didn't bother us, as we had a beautiful view from the top without fog. I must say the path is nicely secured with a cable, so it goes without problems. Best regards to all hikers.

The road to the starting point is very bad, yet the parking lot was almost full anyway.

Though Podpeči says motorway, of course it's not. But a perfectly decent gravel road, so surprised to get such a good road at that altitude. And if you spot all the sights along it, you completely forget the minor roughness.

I just returned from the trip - I do not recommend the macadam "highways" from Podpeče at all, as it is especially completely crumbled on the section from the intersection at Terčevem, elsewhere recent heavy rain has also damaged it considerably; definitely recommend coming from Mežica!

On Saturday we were with the family on Peča, road to parking lot is good, some traces of downpours still visible on the road. Easy path to Peča in partly foggy weather, but summit really nice. After descent via climbing route, by the way the route is excellently protected and really worth trying, the weather improved and sun came out. View top-notch.

The climbing path to Peca is really excellently secured. Wire ropes and pegs are literally everywhere you need them.

On Saturday 11.9.2010 I was with friends on Peca via the climbing path. It is excellently secured. The road to the Jakobe parking lot is also quite good. I recommend it.

Does anyone know the condition of the road to the starting point? And has it snowed on Peca?

road to the starting point is in excellent condition no snow yet on Sunday.

The via ferrata is in excellent condition. Wire ropes where they are really most needed. Otherwise the path is dry.

Yesterday we were at Peca. In the summit section there is snow on the climbing path, which in my opinion requires extra caution.

@Ajda - do you think that snow is still there? I plan to go up maybe on Friday

how was the road to the starting point?

The road is still pretty rough, even with a passenger car there will be quite a bit of stones banging into the undercarriage. We went on Saturday 2.6. via the non-climbing route and there was no snow at all, almost certainly none left on the climbing route either.

Hello. I have a question, whether the climbing path is suitable for a ''beginner'' on climbing paths, given that I have no issues with fitness and height, but the truth is I haven't walked climbing paths yet. Do you recommend buying a safety harness? What are the beginner climbing paths? Thanks for the answer. Best regards. Damjan

Hello! The climbing path is definitely suitable for a beginner. Generally, there is no need for self-belaying on the mentioned path, but everyone must judge for themselves. If you have a "steady" step and are not overly afraid of heights, I think there shouldn't be any problems. In the Carinthian area, I suggest the secured path to Raduha, which might be one level more demanding than this one on Peca. Best regards and safe steps!

For all going to Peca, I recommend driving through Mežica to the hotel, behind the hotel turn right (Austria 3 km), and drive until the Peca sign directs you left, first asphalt (2 km) and then 12 km macadam to the parking (in between you have two more intersections, follow the Peca signs, the road is bad in the last 3 km), the climbing path is "very" easy (without harness 100%). For those wanting a slightly more demanding climbing path, e.g. Češka koča via Kranjska koča through Žrelo.

I'm interested if there's any spot on this path where it would be necessary to rope the child, or if self-belaying (which they master) is sufficient at all difficult sections?
|
|
|
|
| neph26. 07. 2012 |
My opinion is that additional protection is not necessary, provided the child masters handling the self-belaying kit as well as walking on such paths.
|
|
|
|
| Enka27. 07. 2012 |
Thanks, neph. I'm concerned there are no airy spots without protection, just that. On photos I find one that doesn't look problematic. But usually photos only show protected spots, such "surprises" not .

Today on Peča, too bad I didn't know about this branch-off, I got a bit "lost" on the black one. I was tempted to take the climbing path, but alone . I chose the easier walk instead, but it was quite hot. The road to the parking stretches out, but it's in good condition, though quite narrow in places, passing is a bit tricky, but doable. Also extremely friendly caretakers in the hut. Great trip, just the view a bit poorer due to fog.

Hm hm Why is this path classified as very difficult?? Very disappointed, because today's hike on the 'very difficult route' complete disappointment. I would rate the path as demanding at most, the only thing that is 'very difficult' is the drive to the parking lot and back home.

Well, if I head to Peca, I make sure to walk more than drive, I don't drive higher than Golob if I come via Reht. Then Mihev or even lower if I go from Crna direction. I still have the lower station of the cable car in Austria. That route comes into play more often in winter with ski touring. Usually from the gully under Kumr, to do something on the path. There aren't few routes I've hiked, Mihev, Peca, Kumer. A little chat and back to Peca and down to the car.

The path deservedly has the very difficult label, because you can't traverse it with hands in pockets. Additionally, it has at least two sections where without aids and protections it would be very, very hard to progress. But it's true that it's one of the best-equipped and among the easier climbing paths here. You can spice up the path by leaving the car somewhere in the valley (Mežica, Topla) and save your nerves for the bad road and gain more walking to the climbing section entrance. Then the entire ascent is much more appreciated and the climbing path becomes more interesting. Whoever wants even more adrenaline should head to Peča from Najbrž.

Yesterday up this path. I agree with the comments that the difficulty rating is quite appropriate. Compared to the secured climbing path on Raduha, some sections on this path may be slightly steeper, but the secured part is noticeably shorter. The protections are in impeccable condition, placed where you need them, so I could say it's a truly exemplary secured path. Comments on the difficulty of individual paths are of course a matter of each individual's fitness. What is very demanding for some seems completely easy to others. It's hard to put yourself in the shoes of the average mountain visitor for whom these ratings are intended, especially if you have considerably more knowledge and experience. The road to the parking lot is quite bad, but normally drivable (with increased attention) with an average personal car.

For our 25th wedding anniversary, my wife and I did two ascents, to Peca and to Uršlja gora. To Peca the path is well marked, except for King Matjaž's cave. There is one signpost at the hut on Peca, then another after 5 min. walk, then you reach a junction and don't know where anymore. No sign at all! So we didn't find the cave, nor did the friendly hikers from Maribor, as they told me at the top.

Yesterday's Peca and this path was my first real and eagerly awaited secured path with rope on the rock. I'm thrilled with the choice!! Everything needed is excellently secured and manageable without problems, and the view behind me and the feeling of where I am successfully overcame the fear in my head. Everything else on Peca is also praiseworthy, from the marking of the paths to the kindness of the warden at Dom na Peci. With a lot of experience, please suggest similar paths, meaning I don't come across a situation where there's an unsecured difficult and dangerous spot....for starters Thanks and good luck to all!!!

Today there was a group of Carinthian Slovenes in the hut, quite loud, two older gentlemen were leading. When they were returning to the parking lot, of course quite loudly, on the clearing under the hut one of these gentlemen took a bag from his pocket and was picking flowers, unfortunately I couldn't identify which ones, something pink, maybe alpine rose? He surely had half a bag full. When I passed by, I said aloud; That's not done! And the answer: That's done! You see I'm doing it! The lady who went behind me was also horrified, but he didn't let himself be disturbed. I really don't know what to think!

Nice holiday day after yesterday's rain . To Peca we went with a friend via the climbing path . Her first such path, my second (before that I was on the climbing path to Raduha). Really nice, airy here and there, but secured everywhere appropriately . At the summit at 11 o'clock, ahead of us over 30 entries in the book . Weather around 15 degrees, a bit of wind and occasional clouds. Descent via the classic path with quite busy traffic towards the summit .

Road to start from Črna direction has detour now and somewhat damaged. For those from Jezersko suggest Mežica-Reht border, then after couple km (before Mežica) right to Peca. Road first new asphalt, then good gravel. Closer than from Črna where I got confused. Otherwise tour super, varied, climbing route excellent with nice views.

Hi fun folks On Saturday evening we went directly from Uršlja gora via Jakobe to Dom na Peci, where we stayed overnight - the road to Jakobe is really normally drivable, but it drags on and for those who haven't been there, it looks like we're going straight to the top - but go boldly, the road definitely ends after about 20 minutes of driving on gravel, there you park and go easily another half hour to the Dom The sleeping rooms are very comfortable and renovated, we were in the Škratje room and felt just as mischievous hehe On Sunday morning we set off along the climbing route to the summit, the feeling was like climbing King Matjaž's beard hihi The route is really wonderful, scenic and even the imps in our group who had never climbed before were thrilled. The route is really well marked and excellently secured, so there should be no fear of climbing (except maybe for those with vertigo). A via ferrata set is in my opinion not necessary, unless you decide to descend the same way! Helmet is recommended! At the end of the climbing route we arrived at a wonderful open meadow with a view of the summit, there the easy marked path also joins - which we descended. In short, a great route for beginners and those who want to test themselves and sweat just right Nice mountain greeting and safe steps!

Regarding self-belaying, everyone decides according to their own decision and of course based on experience; I myself descended this path without self-belaying. When I was on this path for the first time, I had it with me of course. So I advise beginners to follow the recommendations of the individual path descriptions. Best!

Yesterday I climbed Peca via the mentioned route. The climbing section is short, but quite exposed in certain parts, so it must be tackled with great concentration and caution. The most difficult and most awkward part is the descent after the first jump. The route deserves the name very difficult, but it is very well protected for those who don't like too much looking into the depths I recommend SVK, you can tackle the route with someone experienced and it will be much easier right away. Otherwise, the route is exceptionally beautiful and a good introduction to more difficult climbing routes. Nice hiking greeting Robbrt

The trail to the parking is normally drivable. The climbing section is great practice for those who e.g. have just started walking such trails. Great opportunity also to touch the cables as little as possible. Best

I was on this path today. I have to say that it was my first time ever on a climbing path. And I chose this one for the first time. If I had known, I would never have gone without a self-belay harness, at least not the first time. And to take kids along without protection, you have to be totally crazy. And experienced up and down, because one mistake and something happens quickly and you reproach yourself for life. One or two went up with children, about five years old, without protection on this path. He said that if something happened, the child would just fall on him because he went ahead. You have to be nuts. I had to say this because when you read the comments you get the feeling you can come up without one leg and arm. It's not like that, use your brains or maybe I'm just a bit too "scared". No hard feelings.
|
|
|
|
| Berstuk2. 11. 2021 20:58:29 |
I agree with the previous commenter. This weekend we met three families with children, all without protection. Some even turned back after the first pitch because they realized it wasn't for them. Even on this section (down after the first pitch), some let the child go ahead - great, until something happens... With children on such paths, at least with a helmet!, strongly recommended with a harness and self-protection, I usually carry a 20-meter rope with me (of course, you need to know what to do with it, otherwise it's all useless). On the return from the summit via this path, I met a couple from Kranj (in indoor sneakers), before the last section panic gripped the girl, she had completely scratched hands. Luckily, I had slings and a couple of maillons with me, so I helped the guy pull her over the last part. Peča has quite a few exposed sections that aren't suitable for everyone. Use your common sense. The path is no "via ferrata training path," as her boyfriend said.

Yes, that's how it started in our mountains. More and more hikers, more and more young people who can hardly wait to post a photo on Facebook. Without experience and proper equipment, they tackle quite demanding paths, without thinking about any mishap. This year we noticed on individual mountain tours that we were often the oldest hikers. Hut keepers comment that there are almost no real mountaineers (read: older ones with mountaineering culture) anymore. LP!

|
|
|
| jax11. 11. 2021 13:21:36 |
The fact that the hiking scene is getting younger can only make us happy. I have enough contacts with mountaineering societies to know well that in recent years they have constantly complained that there is no youth left at all. If this has changed, it is only good.
|
|
|
|
| jprim11. 11. 2021 16:49:33 |
Jax I didn't comment that it's not okay to have youth in the mountains, but about their irresponsibility and culture. Regards!

Nobody has written anything. The view from Olševa to Peca is very white. So I assume there's still a lot of snow. For the actual condition, it would be necessary to go and check, LP.
