Jelovec - Žavcarjev vrh

Access to starting point:
A) We drive to Maribor, and then we continue driving towards Dravograd. When we get to the settlement Jelovec, at the crossroad where the road branches off to the right towards the settlement Srednje, the described path begins. We can park at the crossroad, where the road branches off to the right towards the settlement Srednje, or on the opposite side of the road on an asphalt parking lot by the bus stop.
B) From Dravograd we drive towards Maribor; when we get to the settlement Jelovec, we turn right and park on the parking lot by the bus stop.

Path description:
If we've parked on the southern side of the road, we first carefully cross the main road, and then we head onto the main road towards the settlement Srednje and the mountain path to Žavcarjev vrh. The path ahead first leads along an asphalt road which ascends through the settlement Jelovec, where we follow the blazes and signs for the settlement Srednje. Next follow a few hairpin turns, after which a nice view opens up in the direction of Maribor. We continue walking on the asphalt road and at the crossroads follow the blazes. Higher up, we switch to a macadam road along which we arrive at a pasture, which we bypass along the lower side. Behind the pasture follows a shorter descent; past a few houses we arrive at a crossroad from which we continue straight ahead (to the left downward along Habidov potok we arrive in the valley or at the main road). Next follows some walking through the forest, then we ascend over a hayfield past the Rušnik homestead.
Above the homestead we arrive at the edge of the forest; from the road we go onto a cart track along which the marked path continues. Next follows a traverse ascent, and in a few minutes we arrive at a pasture from which a nice view opens up again.
On this section the path from Spodnje Sleme joins us from the left; we continue along the pasture to a smaller hamlet where we reach a macadam road. We continue right upward and continue traversing upward to the right. Higher up we leave the forest; the path, from which a nice view of Pohorje opens up, turns sharply to the left and after some 10 steps of further walking brings us to the Koča na Žavcarjevem vrhu.
We bypass the mountain hut on the left side, at the chapel we go straight into the forest on the path to Žavcarjev vrh, where we walk on a well-trodden path through the forest. After a few minutes of ascent we head onto a slightly left cart track along which we quickly reach the 915 m high summit.
