Kozje - Veliki Javornik (Bohor) (čez Bredič)

Access to starting point:
a) We drive to Šentjur, then follow the signs for Podsreda and Planina pri Sevnici. At the end of Šentjur we turn left towards Podsreda, and then we continue along a fairly winding road to the settlement of Kozje, where we park at one of the arranged parking lots in the center of the settlement.
b) From the Brežice - Podčetrtek road at the outskirts of the settlement Bistrica ob Sotli we turn left (from the direction of Podčetrtek right) towards Podsreda. We bypass the center of Podsreda on the right side, and then we drive to the settlement of Kozje, where we park at one of the parking lots in the center of the settlement.
c) From the direction of Sevnica and Krško we drive to Brestanica, then follow the signs for Podsreda. Some ascent follows, then a descent to Podsreda, where at the end of the settlement we turn left towards Šentjur and Kozje. When we arrive in Kozje we park at the arranged parking lot in the center of the settlement.

Route description:
From the parking lot we walk to the western side of the Kozje pond, where the signs for Grad Kozje direct us onto a poorer road that ascends transversely to the left to a narrower asphalt road leading to a nearby house; we simply cross the road and follow the signs for the old castle. The path further transitions into a belt of bushes and higher up into forest, through which we begin to ascend steeply; on the steeper sections we climb wooden steps, and in places some protection also helps us. During the ascent we also pass several information boards of the educational trail, and we ascend quite steeply all the way to the registration box on the hill where Kozje Castle once stood.
From the top we continue along the ridge further, where in a few steps we descend to a marked junction, where a gentle path also joins from the left, and we continue right towards the peak Bredič.
The path further leads us along the ridge called Zmajev hrbet, where we mostly ascend gently to moderately; here and there we also descend a bit and cross some steeper slope, where especially when wet a bit more caution is needed, otherwise the path in this section is not technically demanding. During the ascent along the ridge some views open up only rarely for us, since the path almost entirely runs along a ridge overgrown with forest and bushes, which however especially on the right, eastern side steeply descends towards the valley.
Later we arrive at a short, more exposed and technically demanding section, where for a few meters we steeply descend along a rocky part, where however a rope is stretched as "help", but we do not know in what condition it will be upon our arrival, therefore it is more reliable to help ourselves by gripping the rocks.
The ridge further on becomes less steep, and we continue for some time without major ascents, but below the peak Bredič the path becomes quite steep for a few minutes. When the path levels out we quickly reach the registration box and stamp on the mentioned peak.
From Bredič we continue towards the west, where in a gentle descent we quickly reach the end of the forest road, along which we continue for a short time. From the road we go a little further left onto a marked footpath, which ascends to a smaller hill, then descends back to the road, which in the meantime has made a longer left hairpin turn. This time too we do not walk long on the road and already the markings lead us left onto a footpath, which first ascends gently, then gradually starts to descend towards the nearby marked junction.
At the junction a path branches off to the right, which leads to Pilštanj (in descriptions the starting point Stari trg), and we continue slightly left in the direction towards Bohor. A moderate descent follows along a fairly overgrown cart track, lower down we cross the forest road once more. When we return to the road we continue along it to the crossroads, where we continue on a slightly right road, and the markings continue along it (here, if we continue sharply left we can return to Kozje). In the further part we start ascending again, at a few crossroads we follow the markings, and higher up we join the path from Lesično.
Also further on the path leads us along forest roads, where we follow the markings, and the path also leads us past the Tovornik homestead, to which we descend a bit.
After the homestead we go slightly right and start ascending again, higher up we keep to the left directions.
Higher up a bit of transverse ascent to the left follows; when we reach the ridge we are already at Brest, where there is also a marked junction.
We continue right in the direction of Koča na Bohorju, where we start ascending lightly through the forest, and further on in a gentle ascent to the left we traverse the slopes of Debeli vrh. When the path brings us to a forested ridge west of Debeli vrh, a narrow path branches off sharply to the right to Debeli vrh, and we continue slightly left and follow the wider path in the direction of the hut. Further on a bit of easy walking follows, then we ascend gently again and soon reach Škofov travnik, across which we continue to the forest road. We follow the road to the right upwards (left downwards to Koča na Bohorju); from it a path to Koprivnik soon branches off to the right, and we walk along the road to a smaller saddle, where Škofov križ is located.
Here a path also joins from the right, which leads across Koprivnik, and we go left in the direction of Veliki Javornik (straight down Planina pri Sevnici) and continue with the path along a gentle road. After a few minutes at the turning point the road ends and we continue the ascent along a cart track, which soon splits. We continue slightly right in the direction of Veliki Javornik (straight Skalica – path that bypasses the peak of Javornik) and gradually start to ascend more steeply; at a few junctions we follow the markings. Higher up we leave the forest and in a few steps we reach the highest point of Veliki Javornik.
