Access to starting point:
The starting point on the Greek island of Crete is above the village of Livadia (also Livadya; gr. Λιβάδια; postal code 74051) at the Lakkos tou Mygerou hut (gr. Λάκκος του Μυγερού) at an altitude of 1550 m.
The turnoff from the village of Livadia is marked and is located in a small square with a monument (see picture). From the village to the hut, there are 13 km of paved road with occasional steep bends. The road is in good condition and wide enough for vehicles to pass each other.
On the road, follow the signs for Psiloritis in Greek "Ψηλορείτης".
Route description:
A few steps past the parking area along the road, a path branches off to the right toward the slope. It is paved with flat stones from the surrounding area. Sand accumulates on these stones, which can make footing slippery, especially on the return trip.
For roughly two-thirds of the way to the saddle, the path remains paved. Above approximately 2000 meters, it transitions into a more typical alpine trail. At 2250 meters, after about two hours of hiking, the path merges with the one coming from the Nida starting point (a vast bowl-shaped plain to the east).
From here, we no longer follow the main trail heading west toward the highest peak, Psiloritis, but instead turn east. In places, the trail is faint and less visible, but avoid descending. Instead, head slightly left across the plateau-like terrain toward the summit, which is reached after 20 to 30 minutes of walking from the saddle.
