Vouloumenou (Kreta / Crete)

Description of mountain:
Vouloumenou is a 2,267-meter-high mountain located in the Ida range (also known as Psiloritis or Idaion). It is just a 45-minute walk from Crete's highest peak, Psiloritis (Timios Stavros). In some sources, the name also appears as Vouloumenou (Greek: Βουλομένου).

Hikers often climb it as an intermediate goal on the way to the highest summit, similar to the ascent of Agathias.


A remarkably large number of fossils can be found in the rocks around the mountain and on its slopes.
