Access to starting point:
A) From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, take the Kranj - east exit, then continue driving towards Jezersko. When we arrive in Preddvor, leave the main road and continue left towards the centre of the mentioned settlement; from there, follow the signs for the Bašelj settlement. When we arrive in Bašelj, at the beginning of the left bend a narrower road continues straight ahead to the parking lot at the log cabin TD Bašelj (in descriptions starting point Bašelj); we, however, continue along the main road from the mentioned intersection for another good 100 m to the next intersection, where we continue right on the road towards Gamsov raj and hamlet Laško. Only about 50 m further, continue on the left road, which gradually begins to ascend moderately. At hamlet Laško, continue left again, then the asphalt ends and we continue driving on a steep macadam road, which we follow to the parking lot at the smaller intersection. At the intersection there are red mountaineering signposts.
B) From the Jesenice - Ljubljana motorway, take the Kranj - west exit and at the first intersection continue left. Then drive through the underpass under the motorway, after which we arrive at a roundabout, from which we continue driving towards Golnik. The route then leads through the settlement Mlaka pri Kranju; at the end of the settlement, we continue right towards the settlement Srakovlje. This is followed by driving through Srakovlje, Spodnja Bela, Srednja Bela, Zgornja Bela (in Zgornja Bela we join the road from Preddvor) to Bašelj, where the main road makes a long left bend, and a narrower road continues straight ahead to the parking lot at the log cabin TD Bašelj (in descriptions starting point Bašelj); we, however, continue along the main road from the mentioned intersection for another good 100 m to the next intersection, where we continue right on the road towards Gamsov raj and hamlet Laško.
Path description:
From the parking lot, head onto the steep cart track towards Lovrenc. After a short steep ascent, the cart track brings us to a junction, where the footpath to the church of St. Lovrenc branches off to the right. We continue on the lower cart track path, which again starts to ascend more steeply and brings us to the Dom na Lovrencu hut after 15 minutes of walking from the starting point.
At the hut, continue on the path towards Storžič and already after a few steps the path brings us out of the forest onto meadows below the church. We reach the church of St. Lovrenc in a few minutes of walking across the meadow.
Continue across the meadow past the church and the path soon brings us into the forest. Further on, the wide path descends slightly to an indistinct saddle, where a path from a somewhat higher starting point joins us. Further ahead, continue towards Storžič still on the wide path, which now ascends slightly. The path soon becomes narrower and then ascends steeply through the forest for some time. Higher up, the path brings us out of the forest and fine views open up onto the southern slopes of Storžič. The steepness continues unabated all the way to a bench at the junction.
To the left, a marked path leads towards Javornik and Poljane; we head right towards Kališče. From the junction, the path becomes somewhat narrower and less trodden. Further on, we cross the slopes towards the east for a long time. Along the path, forest and grassy slopes alternate, some of which are quite steep in places. During the crossing, the path occasionally ascends somewhat more steeply and descends slightly a few times. In the second part of the crossing, the path brings us to the spring below Bašeljsko sedlo. Here, the path turns slightly right and continues crossing the slopes until it brings us to a marked junction, where we continue straight towards Bašeljski vrh and Mali Grintovec (left Storžič, right Dom na Kališču).
Ahead, the path ascends more steeply through a belt of dwarf pines and, with fine views of the neighbouring Mali Grintovec, brings us onto the dwarf pine-covered ridge of Bašeljski vrh, where we arrive at the next well-marked junction in the following few minutes. At the junction, the path to Mali Grintovec and Srednji vrh branches off to the right; we continue straight ahead and, with a view of Storžič, continue the ascent. The path, which runs along and beside the dwarf pine-covered ridge, is joined a little below the summit by the path from Jekarica and Bašeljski preval. Here, continue right and along the somewhat narrower ridge reach Bašeljski vrh in one more minute of walking, from where a fine view opens up towards the mountains above Jezersko, extending all the way to Košuta, Obir and the Lavanttal Alps in Austria.
