Laško - Bašeljski vrh (via Sveti Lovrenc)

Access to starting point:
a) From the Ljubljana-Jesenice motorway, take the Kranj-east exit, then continue driving towards Jezersko. When arriving in Preddvor, leave the main road and continue left towards the centre of the mentioned place, from there follow the signs to the Bašelj settlement. Upon arriving in Bašelj, at the beginning of the left bend a narrower road continues straight ahead to the parking lot at the TD Bašelj log cabin (starting point Bašelj in descriptions), we, however, from the mentioned intersection continue along the main road for another good 100 m to the next intersection, where we continue right along the road towards Gamsov raj and the Laško hamlet. Just some 50 m ahead, continue along the left road, which gradually begins to ascend moderately. At the Laško hamlet continue left again, then the asphalt ends and we continue driving along the steep gravel road, following it to the parking lot by a small intersection. Red mountain signposts are located at the intersection.
b) From the Jesenice-Ljubljana motorway, take the Kranj-west exit and at the first intersection continue left. Then we drive through the underpass beneath the motorway, after which we arrive at a roundabout, from which we continue driving towards Golnik. The route ahead leads through the Mlaka pri Kranju settlement, we at the end of the settlement continue right towards the Srakovlje settlement. This is followed by driving through Srakovlje, Spodnja Bela, Srednja Bela, Zgornja Bela (in Zgornja Bela we join the road from Preddvor) to Bašelj, where the main road makes a long left bend, at which point a narrower road continues straight ahead to the parking lot at the TD Bašelj log cabin (starting point Bašelj in descriptions), we, however, from the mentioned intersection continue along the main road for another good 100 m to the next intersection, where we continue right along the road towards Gamsov raj and the Laško hamlet. Just some 50 m ahead, continue along the left road, which gradually begins to ascend moderately. At the Laško hamlet continue left again, then the asphalt ends and we continue driving along the steep gravel road, following it to the parking lot by a small intersection. Route description:
From the parking lot and intersection, continue along the worse and steeper left road towards sv. Lovrenc and Dom pod Sv. Lovrencem (straight to Kališče and Storžič, to Storžič and to Kališče it is also possible by continuing left). From the intersection onwards we ascend relatively steeply, during the ascent a marked footpath branches off to the right leading directly to the sv. Lovrenc church and bypassing Dom pod Lovrencem. All the time continue along the road, from which higher up some views open temporarily. When the road turns sharply right after some time, it brings us in a few steps to the aforementioned Dom pod Lovrencem.
From the hut continue towards Javornik, Velika and Mala Poljana, Kališče and Storžič along the path that moderately ascends through the forest. The well-trodden path quickly leads us out of the forest onto a vast meadow, across which we stroll with beautiful views to the sv. Lovrenc church.
Continue across the meadow past the church and the path soon leads us into the forest. Further on, the wide path gently descends to an indistinct saddle, where a path joins from the right leading past the monument, and from the left paths join from starting points at Babni Vrh and Povlje.
Further continue towards Storžič still along the wide path, which however gently ascends. The path soon becomes narrower and then steeply ascends through the forest for quite some time. Higher up the path finally leads us out of the forest and beautiful views open onto the southern slopes of Storžič. The steepness does not relent all the way to the bench at the junction.
To the left leads the marked path towards Javornik and Poljana, we however head right towards Kališče. From the junction the path becomes somewhat narrower and less trodden. Further on we cross the slopes eastwards for a long time. Along the way, forest alternates with grassy slopes, which are quite steep in some places. During the crossing the path occasionally ascends somewhat more steeply, and sometimes gently descends. In the second part of the crossing the path leads us to the spring below Bašeljsko sedlo. Here the path turns slightly right and continues crossing the slopes until it brings us to the marked junction, where we continue straight towards Bašeljski vrh and Mali Grintovec (left Storžič, right Dom na Kališču).
Ahead the path ascends more steeply through a belt of dwarf pines and brings us, with beautiful views of the neighbouring Mali Grintovec, onto the dwarf pine-covered ridge of Bašeljski vrh, where we reach the next well-marked junction in the following few minutes. At the junction a path branches off to the right to Mali Grintovec and Srednji vrh, we continue straight and, with a view of Storžič, continue the ascent. The path, which runs along and on the dwarf pine-covered ridge, joins just below the summit with the path from Jekarica and Bašeljski preval. Here continue right and along a somewhat narrower ridge reach Bašeljski vrh in one minute of further walking, from which a beautiful view opens towards the mountains above Jezersko, extending all the way to Košuta, Obir and the Labotniške Alpe in Austria.
