Mače - Cjanovca (over Kozjek and on SE ridge)

Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, we take the exit Kranj - east, then continue driving in the direction of Jezersko. When we arrive in Preddvor, we leave the main road and continue driving left towards the center of the mentioned settlement; from there, we follow the signs for Mače. When we arrive in Mače, at the marked intersection we continue right (left Bašelj, straight church of St. Miklavž (church isn't accessible by car)) and drive up the narrow road above the village, where there is a larger marked parking lot.
B) From the highway Jesenice - Ljubljana, we take the exit Kranj - west and at the first intersection continue left. We then drive through the underpass under the highway and arrive at a roundabout, from which we continue driving in the direction of Golnik. The route then leads through the settlement Mlaka pri Kranju, and at the end of the settlement we continue right in the direction of the settlement Srakovlje. This is followed by driving through Srakovlje, Spodnja Bela, Srednja Bela to Zgornja Bela, where we continue right towards Preddvor. In Preddvor, we notice signs for Mače, which direct us left past the primary school onto the road that ascends to Mače. When we arrive in Mače, at the marked intersection we continue right (left Bašelj, straight church of St. Miklavž (church isn't accessible by car)) and drive up the narrow road above the village, where there is a larger marked parking lot.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we return to the road from which we turned to the parking lot and continue the ascent along it in the direction of Kališče. At first, we walk through the forest; the road a few minutes higher approaches the stream Suha, which a little further we also cross twice. After approximately 20 minutes we arrive at a marked junction, where the usual path to Kališče continues left, but we continue right in the direction of Srednji vrh, Kališče over Kozjek and Zavetišče v Hudičevem borštu over Kozjek. The increasingly poor road soon brings us to a cargo cableway that leads towards Dom na Kališču.
The ascent further on is somewhat more difficult orientationally due to the labyrinth of tracks, but if we carefully follow the blazes, we cannot go wrong. Higher up, the track turns into a steep footpath, which after some time brings us to the ridge of Kozjek. Here the path levels out and turns left, bringing us after a few minutes of further walking to a marked junction.
Here the path to Kališče branches off to the left, and we continue on the right path. After that we cross a gully and after just a few dozen steps of further walking we reach the next junction, where we continue straight ahead (left Dolga njiva, Cjanovca and Srednji vrh) in the direction of Hudičev boršt. This is followed by a few minutes of traversing, which in the final section runs across a grassy slope, after which at the edge of Hudičev boršt we join the somewhat shorter Mačenska pot.
We continue past the spring and after one or two minutes of further walking arrive at Zavetišče v Hudičevem borštu.
From the shelter we continue eastwards, quickly leaving Hudičev boršt and arriving at the point where we emerge from the forest. On the initial section where we emerge from the forest, a steel cable assists us in the moderate descent, continuing for a few meters across the relatively steep slope. The path continues across the fairly steep grassy slope of Zaplata, which is extremely avalanche-prone in winter. The traverse of the grassy slope, which is especially when wet dangerous for slipping in a few places but otherwise technically undemanding, ends after about 15 minutes and the path brings us into the forest. This is followed by about another 15 minutes of traversing through the forest, after which we arrive at a marked junction, where we continue left in the direction of Srednji vrh and Cjanovca (slightly right Javorov vrh, right sv. Jakob and Potoška gora).
We continue along the path, which begins to ascend more steeply along and beside the eastern ridge of Cjanovca. Higher up the path brings us out of the forest onto slopes covered with dwarf pines, and we continue along the increasingly steep and in places very scenic path. The path, from which fine views open up onto Kočna, Grintovec, Kalški greben and Gorenjska, gradually turns slightly to the left. We follow this increasingly scenic and relatively steep path all the way to the summit of Cjanovca, on which there is a bench and a small cairn.
