Access to starting point:
We leave the Gorenjska motorway at the Jesenice - west exit (Hrušica), and then continue driving towards Kranjska Gora and further towards Rateče. Just a few hundred metres before the Rateče border crossing, we turn left and continue driving in the direction of Planica. After a short ascent, the road brings us to the ski jumps in Planica, where we park on one of the several larger parking areas.
Path description:
From the parking lot in Planica, on a footpath or road we walk almost to the Dom v Tamarju hut (40 minutes).
Only about 100 m before the hut, the mountain signposts for Slemenova špica, Mala Mojstrovka and Vršič direct us left onto the path, which after a few steps brings us out of the forest onto extensive scree fields. The path ahead gently ascends slightly to the left to the outlet of the mighty gully that we see in front of us. The path then brings us right into the gully, along which the path continues. Further, we ascend up the gully, seeking passages that after every heavy rainfall are elsewhere. The path through the gully is marked, but many marks are upside down, and where there is a mark, the passage is often almost impossible. The entire approximately 45-minute-long passage through the gully is also exposed to falling rocks. The ascent through the gully is difficult but nowhere exposed. We exit the gully onto the Grlo saddle, where a barely noticeable unmarked path from the Mala Pišnica valley joins us.
We continue right in the direction of Slemenova špica and Vršič. The path ahead crosses a short stretch of forest and a little higher brings us to scree fields, which the path crosses in a gentle ascent to the steep slopes. Here the path ascends steeply, aided by some pegs and a steel cable. Further, we ascend a moderately overgrown slope quite steeply upwards to the point where we join the Vršič - Slemenova špica path.
Here we continue left in the direction of Vršič (right Slemenova špica) and proceed along a pleasant path that runs through a sparse larch forest. Further, the path ascends gently for a short time, then after a few minutes of further walking brings us to the Vratca saddle, where there is a junction of marked and unmarked paths.
We continue right in the direction of Mojstrovka (left unmarked path to Prednje Robičje, straight down Vršič) along the path that runs below the walls of Šitna glava. After some 10 steps of further walking, the Hanzova pot to Mala Mojstrovka branches off to the left upwards (straight Slemenova špica via unmarked path). The path ahead, with the aid of numerous pegs, ascends steeply and higher brings us to the first steel cables, which then become our "permanent" companion. The excellently secured path further leads us steeply upwards along exposed ledges and gullies. The path, exposed to falling rocks, gradually flattens, and from the left an unmarked path from Šitna glava joins us. After a further few minutes, the steepness eases even more, and the path brings us to more level terrain, which we bypass on the right side. Further, the path approaches the ridge, and ahead of us we spot Mangart and Jalovec. Here the path turns slightly left and brings us to a steep section. With the aid of some pegs, mainly without fixed protections, we ascend the steep summit slope of Mala Mojstrovka to its panoramic summit.
