Access to starting point:
From Budapest, we drive east on the motorway towards the city of Nyiregyhaza. After approximately 90 kilometers, we leave the motorway at the Gyoengyoes/Matrafured exit. We continue to the town of Gyoengyoes, then at the marked intersection continue north towards the village of Matrafuered. We continue along the road that takes us through numerous hairpin bends to the Matrahaza saddle, from where we then descend. At the end of the descent, in one sharp right-hand bend, we will see a refreshment stand and a large parking lot at the beginning of the village of Paradsasvar. We can leave the vehicle here.
Path description:
From the parking lot at the beginning of the village of Paradsasvar we head west into the village. On the left we will also notice the Sasvar mansion (Eagle's Mansion). We take the first street to the right (Rakoczy ut street) and continue through the village in a slight ascent. At the next junction we go straight and reach the glassworks. Here we continue to the parallel street (Beke ut), where at the end we finally leave the village and the asphalt and enter the forest. It is also possible to park the vehicle here, but it is usually full.
After entering the forest, we follow a narrow forest path that will turn into a wider track. The path soon brings us to the interesting meadow Gesztenyes Kor. The track then goes into the forest and begins to ascend gently. In the forest we will notice an artificial lake, behind which we will also cross the Csatorna stream. After crossing the stream, the path becomes very steep, continuing through the forest. During the ascent we will cross a short clearing as well. The path ahead goes along a ditch and is quite steep, the surface more rocky and slippery. After a while the path brings us to a belt of very sparse forest, on the left there will be a belt of shrubs. Continuing we reach the summit of Kis-Lipot, where an exceptional view opens to the north and west.
From Kis-Lipot we descend slightly, then an even steeper ascent follows through sparse forest. The path, which is partly rocky and partly gravelly, then becomes overgrown with roots as well, so greater caution is needed especially on the descent. The steepness then gradually eases, and we reach a junction where the blue path from Matrahaza joins from the left. To the left is less than a minute away the viewpoint Nagy-lipot with an exceptional view.
After the junction our path, which so far ran south, turns west, where it finally levels out. Here we will cross an asphalt road and enter sparse forest (after crossing the road there is also a small shelter). The path ahead ascends slightly along the track, meanwhile crossing a short clearing, after which we gradually join a wider track.
When the wider track begins to ascend gently we reach another clearing. After this clearing we are soon again at a junction where the yellow path from the town of Gyöngyössolymos joins. A couple more minutes of walking and we are already at the ski resort parking lot on Galyatető. Here an exceptional view opens to the southwest and Matra.
Along the asphalt we go west to the hotel, but only about a minute, because then we turn left again (here a building is under construction and the path direction may change in the future). When we turn left we go up the newly made stone steps, from which it is only two minutes to the summit. The summit is in the forest and has no view, but when this description was created a huge observation tower was under construction, which will open in summer 2015.
