Access to starting point:
A) From the Ljubljana–Jesenice motorway, take the Vodice exit, then continue driving to the first traffic-light intersection in Vodice, where we turn left towards Cerklje na Gorenjskem and Brnik. When we reach the main roundabout in Spodnji Brnik, continue driving towards Cerklje and the Krvavec ski centre. At the end of the settlement Cerklje na Gorenjskem, leave the main road which continues towards Velesovo and Visoko and continue slightly right onto the road towards the Krvavec ski centre. Further on, we arrive at the village Grad, where signs for the settlement Ambrož pod Krvavcem direct us right onto a steep asphalt road (straight to the bottom station of the gondola lift on Krvavec and Štefanja Gora). When the steepness on the steep road eases somewhat, we arrive at an intersection, where we continue left towards the settlement Ambrož pod Krvavcem (straight to the settlements Ravne, Apno and Šenturška Gora). A little further, the road temporarily descends slightly, then ascends through occasionally quite panoramic slopes. Higher up, we arrive at Ambrož pod Krvavcem, where we bypass the church of St. Ambrož and the tourist farm Pr Ambružarju on the left side. From the tourist farm onwards, the road enters the forest and ascends through it all the way to the mountain pasture Jezerca, where there is a large arranged parking lot. Here the road flattens and turns left, about 500 m further it brings us to an intersection, where we continue right towards the mountain pasture Kriška planina (straight to the upper station of the gondola lift and Planinski dom na Gospincu). Only a short steep ascent follows and we arrive at the parking lot on the edge of Kriška planina. Now the road from the mountain pasture Jezerca to Kriška planina is closed to public traffic, which extends our walk by approximately 15 minutes. B) From the Jesenice–Ljubljana motorway, take the Kranj–east exit, then continue driving towards Brnik, Komenda and Mengeš. Path description:
At the end of the parking lot, where the road turns left, but to the right branches the road towards the nearby mountain pasture Jezerca, we will notice red mountain signposts that direct us straight onto the marked footpath towards Kriška planina, Vrh Korena, Košutna, Kompotele and Mokrica, which ascends over the pastures of the aforementioned mountain pasture. After a short ascent we reach a cart track, which we follow left, crossing the slopes of Kržišče (1658 m). The cart track along which we walk quickly splits into two parts, we continue straight along the lower one. Temporarily a nice view opens towards Kranj, Škofjeloško hribovje and Storžič, then the path begins to descend gently. A few more minutes of walking follow, then we arrive at the parking lot at the lower part of Kriška planina. From the parking lot continue towards planina Koren and continue along the poorer macadam road that goes through the underpass under the ski slope. After the underpass, the marked path turns slightly left from the road, continuing parallel to the road along a spruce avenue. After a few minutes of gentle ascent, when we reach the eastern edge of Kriška planina, where there is a small watering place for animals, we continue slightly left across the pasture fence (right Planina Osredek and Kamniški vrh), but continue the gentle ascent in approximately the same direction. Ahead, the path from the mountain pasture goes onto somewhat steeper slopes of Krvavec, across which we ascend transversely to a viewpoint from which a nice view opens towards Kržišče (Pokovše), the ridge of Kamniški vrh, the Korošica valley, Velika planina and towards nearby Košutna and Veliki Zvoh. From the viewpoint, located a few steps right off the path, we begin to descend more steeply towards the hunting hut above the Korošica valley. When the descent ends and the path continues without major elevation changes, we arrive at a visible but poorly marked junction, where to the right branches the path to the aforementioned hunting hut and further towards the Korošica valley and Kamniška Bistrica valley. At this junction continue slightly left and begin gently ascending through the forest. The path quickly leaves the forest into bushes and dwarf pines, then gradually across the pasture fence brings us to the next unmarked junction, located right in the middle of a sharp right bend. From this hairpin, an unmarked path continues straight towards the Razor saddle (saddle between Krvavec and Veliki Zvoh), we continue right on the still marked path. A short transverse ascent follows and the path brings us to the southern part of planina Koren, from where a nice view opens over the central part of the mountain pasture and surrounding peaks. From the southern part of the mountain pasture a short descent follows to the nearby shepherd hut, located in the central part of planina Koren. Here at the hut slightly right (southeast direction) branches the path leading to planina Košutna. The path first crosses the slopes almost horizontally, then brings us to a technically demanding spot. The path steeply ascends over a short rocky jump, where renovated safety gear assists us. The path then flattens and brings us past a cross to planina Košutna, where a chapel and shepherd dwelling stand. From the mountain pasture continue along a less trodden path that goes left of the chapel through dwarf pines (blazes renovated). Ahead the path gently ascends the moderately steep and panoramic slope of Košutna. When the path fully flattens, the path to the summit of Košutna branches right, newly marked and well signposted. We follow this path all the way to the summit, which we reach after 15 minutes further walking. The path was renovated on 29.6.2019 and is nicely passable. From the summit of Košutna then along the renovated mountain path we head towards Kompotele (new blazes and cleared path). We follow the path to the summit of Kompotele, where at the signpost we turn right towards Mokrica, left is the summit of Kompotele (2 min). Just a few steps from the summit an marked path branches east to Mokrica. We take this path, which begins to descend. After more than ten minutes of descent over steep grass the path brings us to the ridge of Mokrica. The path, which continues gently descending, is slightly exposed at a few spots. After less than half an hour walking from Kompotele the path brings us to the logbook box on the summit of Mokrica. This part of the path was also renovated on 29.6.2019.
PP: In fog orientation can be very difficult especially from planina Koren onwards. Safe steps!
