Access to starting point:
Leave the Gorenjska motorway (Ljubljana–Jesenice) at the Lipce exit (or Hrušica) and follow the road towards Jesenice. In the town, signs for Planina pod Golico direct us right (or left if coming from Hrušica) onto an ascending road (the junction is marked and located near the Jesenice Health Centre). The relatively steep road soon leads us to the mentioned village, where in May we can admire the blooming narcissi on the surrounding meadows. From Planina pod Golico continue driving to the next junction with numerous mountain signposts. Turn right here towards Golica, then after the end of the settlement drive another good 50 metres to the parking area below the Savske jame.
Route description:
From the parking area we walk back a few dozen steps and head towards Kmečki turizem Betel (if we continue up the road we can reach Golica via the path past Korlnov rov or via the Savske jame). A short ascent on the asphalt road brings us to Kmečki turizem Betel; after it we turn right at the junction towards Golica.
A few minutes higher we reach the hut Pri Fencu (Apartments Pri Fencu); here we watch for the marked path branching right that starts behind the apartments.
We continue on the wide marked path that first climbs across a small meadow, then enters a narrow belt of forest and a little higher a dense forest. About 15 minutes of ascent through the forest follows, where the path leads near a stream, after which we reach a gravel road that we follow to the right until the marked junction at the lower station of the freight cable car leading to Koča na Golici.
Here we join the previously mentioned path that leads past Korlnov rov; we continue only a little further left onto the path towards Koča na Golici and Golica. The path immediately branches again.
We continue on the slightly right, normal path (slightly left is the winter route) that climbs quite steeply through increasingly sparse forest higher up. When we approach 1500 m above sea level, we leave the forest and, with fine views, traverse to the marked junction where we continue slightly left towards Koča na Golici, which we can already see ahead (sharply right are Struška, Markljev and Pusti Rovt and the Savske jame).
A short traverse to the left follows and the path branches again. Signs for Koča na Golici direct us right onto the trail (the lower path leads past Mokotova bajta and also reaches the hut), on which we climb to the hut in a few minutes, from where a fine view of the highest peaks of the Julian Alps opens.
From the hut we follow the marked path towards the summit of Golica. The path initially leads north on a fairly gentle slope that soon becomes steeper. We then move from the broad ridge onto grassy slopes, across which we first traverse left and then ascend straight up in a few switchbacks.
Higher up the gradient eases and just before the main ridge of the Karavanke a ridge path from Sedlo Suha joins from the right.
We continue left and quickly step onto the exceptionally scenic ridge. We walk along it for about another 15 minutes to the viewpoint summit of Golica, where Kadilnikova koča once stood.

Starting point – lower station of the freight cable car 0:35, lower station of the freight cable car – Koča na Golici 1:00, Koča na Golici – junction on the Golica ridge 0:30, junction on the Golica ridge – Golica 0:15.

narcissi are practically gone, but instead hordes of hikers from all over Slovenia, whoever goes to the mountains to enjoy nature, peace and quiet I STRONGLY advise against Golica

What is the road like along this described gravel road, can you reach it with a slightly lower car, is the hut below Golica open tomorrow? nasmeh

I have one question. How long does the trail take if you go on foot from Javorniški Rovt to Planina pod Golico?
Majdag19. 03. 2017

...Past Korlnov rov to Golica...

...We have a new marked hiking trail for the ascent to Golica. It leads past Korlnov rov in Savske jame. It is pleasant and there is no trail description yet, so I uploaded it under this title..nasmehvelik nasmeh

Can someone tell me what the current conditions on Golica are, is there already snow on the top or is it still dry?
Majdag7. 10. 2017
Conditions - dry...

Hello! Tomorrow I plan to go to Golica and I'm interested, since it will be my first time up there in winter, what the conditions are like now, especially whether it's possible with low running shoes up there because I would slowly run to the top, so I'm interested in how thick the snow cover is and if the path is safe? And also where is best to leave the car, because I wouldn't want to drive high up in these conditions, I was thinking to leave it as described under Savske jame or at the end of Planina pod Golico where there is parking, and I'm interested if the road there is normal and good now?
ljubitelj gora5. 01. 2018
Avalanche-prone and dangerous, you must go by the winter route, the described path above is not safe. Leave the car as in the first picture.

Yesterday 20.4. on the Winter path to the hut almost no snow is needed (last couloir below the hut), on the Summer path avalanches will still persist. White also on the ridge, in between from white crocuses mežikanje Wherever there is snow in between there are also hollow "flehe" that break through unpleasantly or muddy slide. Still solitary and little visited mežikanje

Can you reach Sedlo Suha by car?

Hello! Can someone please tell me approximately how long it would take if starting for Golica already from the health home in Jesenice?

best regards ROk
turbo13. 07. 2018
About 5 hours of walking from the valley:

heinz13. 07. 2018
Less. Approx 3.5 - 4. According to the data from the PZS link even like this: Local asphalt road Jesenice-Planina pod Golico 4 km, to the hut - 2 h 30. (+30 min to the top, so total 3 hours), which seems too little to me for average hiking.

The path is still closed so as written ascent past the Savske jame. The path is newly marked and really nice.

Does anyone have information on the conditions on Golica? A while ago I noticed warnings of avalanche risk due to snow. Is the ascent to Golica already safe? Thanks nasmeh

I'm wondering about parking from the Jesenice direction. Any recommendations, rules?
Majdag24. 05. 2020
Parking.... during the week no problem. Yesterday everything was jammed with cars. On roads from Križovec in all directions, around Markeljnova planina, Korlnov rov and the whole village Planina pod Golico. And even on the road almost to the turnoff for Plavški Rovt, insane. I just drove through... Also on the road "Za Mavri," all full..nasmeh
Jusk27. 06. 2020
This afternoon on Golica.. path ok, at the top no one except a few 100 sheepvelik nasmeh weather hot but windy.. far up in Austria thunderstorm clouds were visible. Return path along the ridge to Suha, Križovec and towards Planina pod Golico. Lp

Majdag6. 05. 2021 19:04:28
Some are already blooming in Plavški Rovt, below Mala Golica there are none yet.
Jusk6. 05. 2021 20:27:53
Given that there's still some snow on Golica and temperatures aren't very high, I'd say in about 3-4 weeks.. in the villages below, the first ones bloomed about 10 days ago.. Lp
felix9. 05. 2021 13:16:57
Does anyone know about the drivability to the starting points under Golica, I saw somewhere that the roads will be closed on weekends, and buses will run to Planina pod Golico and to Javorniški Rovt?
Jusk9. 05. 2021 14:01:41
Check the thread "takle mamo na Jesenicah", the bus schedule is also posted. Lp

Golica, Suha saddle, Markeljnova planina, Savske jame.. I start from the parking lot below and past Fenc, then along the road and at the bend upwards towards the loading station. The beautiful narcissus meadows have said goodbye for this year. They still give the impression of white meadows. They are still beautiful only around the hut and on the sunny ends of the slopes. For those whose health doesn't allow, enjoy and wander with me in the pictures on the link below. Good luck!nasmeh

My path to Golica is more circular..nasmeh Under Mala Golica the flowers are blooming again. Every stone has its own arrangement and the slopes are full of colorful flowers. Life can be heard and seen. Full of tiny creatures flying from flower to flower and feasting. It's beautiful and interesting to observe this flowering paradise in pristine nature..nasmeh

Nice tripnasmeh at that picture where you're wondering where the family with the dog is descending, there is one of the paths from Austria, by description it looks like a nice pathnasmehhttps://www.hribi.net/izlet/podrozca___rosenbach_golica_cez_planino_kladje/11/252/6459 another undescribed path from Austria goes to the saddle Suha, you probably noticed the path there at the border stone, last time I was there I explored it a bit, for a while it's a flat path, when it starts descending towards Austria I turned back
Majdag19. 06. 2022 08:56:56

Thanks Jusk, for me the one from our side will suffice. I noticed a path at the saddle, probably they used to smuggle across the border there.nasmeh
