Access to starting point:
a) We drive to Mozirje, then continue driving towards Logarska dolina. On the main road we drive to the settlement Strmec, where immediately after Bar Bife we turn right onto a side road marked for Koča na Loki and Snežna jama. We gradually start to ascend more steeply, and at all intersections we follow the signs for Snežna jama and Koča na Loki. After approximately 16 km of driving we reach the parking lot at the junction of the path for Koča na Loki, then we drive another approximately 1.3 km to the signs for Snežna jama, where we park in a suitable place.
b) From the Gorenjska direction we drive towards the Črnivec pass, and before the pass we turn left towards Kranjski Rak or the Volovljek pass. After the Volovljek pass we start descending towards Luče, and in Luče we turn right towards Mozirje. The road then leads us through the settlement Raduha, after which we arrive in the settlement Strmec, where before Bar Bife we turn left onto the road marked for Koča na Loki and Snežna jama.
Route description:
At the starting point we notice signs for Snežna jama and Raduha, which direct us right onto the cart track, which then ascends through the forest. The cart track soon turns left and ascends transversely to the marked junction, where the path from Rogovilca joins from the left.
We continue right in the direction of Planina Arta, Koča na Loki and Velika Raduha (straight up Snežna jama) and ascend transversely along the cart track for a few more minutes, then leave the forest and walk to the shepherd's hut located in the middle of the scenic part of Planina Arta.
In front of the hut we go left in the direction of Velika Raduha (slightly right or towards the east the path continues towards Koča na Loki), then ascend steeply to the northwestern part of the pasture, where we return to the forest.
This is followed by some more ascent through the forest, then after crossing the pasture fence we gradually reach the edge of the steep western slopes of Raduha, from where beautiful views begin to open towards the mountains above Robanov kot and Logarska dolina. Higher up the forest becomes increasingly sparse and spruce is gradually replaced by dwarf pine. In the continuation we ascend for some time along the grassy slope, and as we approach the main ridge the marked path turns right (here a passage to an exceptional viewpoint opens to the left, which is only a minute's walk from the path).
The path ahead continues through dwarf pine and initially crosses the slopes to the right without major changes, then begins to ascend transversely, initially still through dwarf pine, and in the final part along the scenic grassy slope. We follow such a path to the scenic summit of Velika Raduha, where the famous ice axe and registration box are located.
Starting point - junction to Snežna jama 0:10, junction to Snežna jama - Planina Arta 0:10, Planina Arta - Velika Raduha 1:30.

Yeah, what did you expect in the cave

My husband and I also visited Snežna jama and were enthusiastic about both the cave and the guide. Interesting natural setting, not "commercialized" and a truly professional presentation by an experienced caver.

we visited the cave this spring and we liked it too. of course it depends on expectations. if you expect a Postojnska jama at 1500m it's understandable that you're disappointed. špela

I expected from postcards that this is an ice cave where I'd be walking among ice the whole time. But I was disappointed except for the initial hall. Ordinary cave nothing special like Postojnska jama and many others. In short, no point

Of course it's special because there are usually no karst caves at such altitudes. But it's not special in terms of stalactite richness, that's true. As I say, if you had some wild idea of what you'd see, it's clear you were disappointed. špela

If you want to see Snežna jama in all its beauty, visit it in spring as soon as it opens. Then you'll see why it's called Snežna jama; full of ice stalactites. By the way, I've been to the cave twice myself and both times particularly impressed by the guide.

I remember that little schnapps at the end. But the cave somewhat disappointed me.

The cave is something special. I was there last year and eight years ago. The difference is really big. Due to interventions in the natural environment, the ice and huge stalactites have almost disappeared (especially noticeable in July and August) The cave remains very interesting. Cold - so dress warmly. The path via Arto is somewhat steeper in a few places but without difficult sections Best regards, Franci

hi, on Friday 25.03.2011 it was still not possible, I talked to some hikers who came on this road, but they had to leave the car approx. 4km before Loka and continue on foot...

I'm wondering how long the path from Koča na Loki to Snežna jama takes, on foot of course best; Dejan

If you go from the parking lot before the turn-off to Planina Loka by car further to the signs for Snežna jama and park there, it's 10 minutes to Snežna jama !!

yesterday we "SNAILS" went to Raduha via Planina Arta, descended to the hut at Loki, crossed to Snežna jama and explored it. the cave is wonderful even though the ice pillars have already collapsed, real wilderness. praise to the youngest "snails" (9-12 years) and the cave guide, everyone found the path via Arta much nicer than the one to the hut. highly recommend

In summer yes, but I don't know how it is now.

Of course in summer you can. I'm asking if the road is already dry?

@Abuh, the answer to your question is correct.

If I went up the path described above to the summit and descended to Planina Loka, I'm curious how much walking there would be from the hut on the pasture to the starting point at Snežna jama, where I'd leave the car. Balončki

How is the hike from "Durc" if starting in front of Grohat hut, then go to "durc" and back down towards Koča na Loki... Thanks.

The road to Koča na Loki pod Raduho is not passable. Otherwise, it's a nice walk to the hut. The path to Raduha is snowy and winter gear or at least crampons are needed.
