Podgrad - Millstone quarry

Access to starting point:
From the eastern Ljubljana bypass, head to the Ljubljana - east exit and continue driving along Zaloška cesta in the direction of Zalog. Further, drive on the main road towards Podgrad. In the settlement Podgrad, turn right through the underpass under the railway track and then continue on a relatively narrow road in the direction towards Besnica and Janče. A little before the end of the settlement Podgrad, park on the parking lot on the left side of the road. If the parking lot is occupied, turn right here onto a cart track next to the information board and cross the stream over a small wooden bridge. There is also some space for parking there.

Path description:
From the parking lot, first cross the main road and past the information board which describes the Ostrovrharjeva pot, head onto the cart track and over a small wooden bridge cross the stream Besnica. The cart track turns left and brings us to a crossroads.
Sharply right on the cart track or macadam road leads the Ostrovrharjeva pot, next to which there is also a signpost; slightly right a shortcut branches off, which joins the Ostrovrharjeva pot higher up, but we continue straight on the gentle cart track. The gentle cart track then brings us to a grassy clearing where we will also notice a hunting observation post. We continue on the cart track, which due to frequent mud can also be bypassed here on a path running along the edge of the clearing. After the clearing, the path brings us to a junction.
Straight on the cart track leads a more direct path towards the old castle Osterberg, but we continue left onto a narrower path, directed there also by the signpost for the Ostrovrharjeva pot. From the junction, the path first slightly descends and then crosses the stream Besnica over a small wooden bridge. Here we are again at a junction and continue right; straight across the road leads the Ostrovrharjeva pot towards the peak Murjevka. So we continue along the stream, which we cross again, and then walk next to it for quite some time on a wide gentle path. Later the path narrows and continues along the stream all the way to a junction where there is a bench and an information board about Knapovska Draga.
Here we leave the path along the valley of the stream Besnica and continue sharply right. From the junction, the path starts to ascend steeply through the forest. The steep path then brings us in a few longer hairpin turns to the millstone quarry. If we continue on the path, we quickly reach a second quarry where some unfinished millstones are even more visible.
We can descend along the ascent path or continue the ascent to the old castle Osterberg and then return via the cart track or Ostrovrharjeva pot back to the starting point.
