Podkorita - Ribčeva planina

Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, we take the exit Lesce, then continue driving towards Bled and Bohinjska Bistrica. When we arrive in the municipality of Bohinj, we slowly pay attention to the left turn-off. Just before the main road crosses the bridge over the river Sava Bohinjka, we continue slightly left on a macadam road which continues parallel to the river. From the main road, we drive another 2100 m on the macadam road and then park at a suitable place by the road.

Path description:
From the starting point, we continue on a macadam road, and it already leads us right away over two successive streams and a smaller wooden cottage, which we notice on the left side. Only a little further, or immediately after the smaller bridge, we arrive at a smaller crossroads, where a short road towards the nearby bee house branches off to the left. We continue towards the bee house (straight to waterfall Grmečica and Nomenj, right road ends on the nearby meadows) and behind it straight into a strip of bushes, where we first notice a faint footpath, which only a few meters higher becomes more distinct. The path ahead leads us over a short scree slope, where it turns right and transitions to an old cart track. Continuing, we ascend along the cart track, and at two less noticeable junctions we follow it to the right. The cart track then veers slightly to the right and brings us into a small valley, where it almost completely disappears. A few steps further through the valley or some kind of wide gully, then the path leads us left onto the slopes, where the cart track becomes distinct again. Only a little higher, we cross a forest road, and the path above it first ascends through a strip of bushes, then enters the forest, through which it begins to ascend more steeply. Higher up, there are again a few almost unnoticeable junctions, and we follow the "main" path, which brings us higher to a more rocky and partly covered with high grass cart track. Here we continue left and then after a few meters, when we arrive in a smaller valley, right onto a gentle cart track, along which we ascend to the nearby macadam road. We follow the road to the right, and then after some 10 meters at a smaller right bend, slightly left onto the cart track, along which we ascend to the lower part of Bitenjska planina mountain pasture. When we step out of the forest, we continue slightly left, and after a short ascent we already see the first cottages on the pasture, to which we walk across an increasingly panoramic meadow.
Above the mountain pasture, we step onto an asphalt road, which we follow to the right (left to Železniki), and we walk along it to the nearby crossroads, where we notice the first signs for Ratitovec.
We continue left onto the road in the direction of Ratitovec, and initially the still asphalt road quickly leads us into a dense forest. Approximately 10 minutes we walk along the mentioned road, then the blazes direct us slightly left onto a marked footpath, which continues along a grassy cart track, the latter along the Bitenjski graben stream. Higher, we return to the road, which we reach right at the smaller crossroads. We continue along the upper right road, along which we quickly arrive at Ribčeva planina.
