Povlje - Velika Poljana (via mala Poljana)

Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, take the Brnik exit. When we reach the road Mengeš - Kranj, we continue left towards Kranj. On the main road towards Kranj we drive to the first roundabout, from where we continue on the first exit to the right in the direction of Šenčur. Through Šenčur we continue on the main road, then when we reach the road Kranj - Zgornje Jezersko, we continue right in the direction of Jezersko. When we get to Preddvor we leave the main road and continue driving left towards the center of the mentioned settlement, from there we follow the signs for the settlement Bašelj. A little after the settlement Bašelj the road descends to the stream Milka and crosses it over a bridge. Here to the right first branches off the road to the village Babni Vrt, good 100 m ahead also to the village Povlje. We continue on the ascending road towards Povlje, and park on a smaller parking lot above the village. At the starting point there is a smaller crossroad, several mountain signposts and a larger information board of the walking-educational path Trstenik "Pot pod Storžičem".
B) From the highway Jesenice - Ljubljana take the Kranj west exit, then continue driving towards Golnik. When we get to Tenetiše we leave the main road towards Golnik and continue driving right in the direction of Trstenik. Approximately 1 km after the settlement Trstenik we get to a smaller crossroad, where we continue left in the direction of the village Povlje. We continue on the ascending road towards Povlje, and park on a smaller parking lot above the village. At the starting point there is a smaller crossroad, several mountain signposts and a larger information board of the walking-educational path Trstenik "Pot pod Storžičem".

Path description:
From the parking lot we head to the left road in the direction of Velika and Mala Poljana (the path between both roads leads to the mountain pasture Javornik, also Dolenčeva pot to Velika Poljana). The road soon turns left, leading us past the water storage and quarry. A little further ahead the road changes into a cart track, which temporarily ascends more steeply. A little after the cart track flattens and turns right into the forest, a marked footpath branches off a little more to the right from it, on which we continue the ascent. For a short time we continue the ascent along the torrent, then the path turns left and ascends diagonally, in the last part over a somewhat collapsed gully. At the top of the gully we step onto a kind of ridge between two streams, where the path from the villages Goriče and Zalog joins us from the left. A short ascent follows along the panoramic ridge, then we arrive at a marked junction, from where we continue on the lower left path in the direction of Mala Poljana (right Velika Poljana).
The path ahead crosses the slopes to the left, then brings us into the valley between Tolsti vrh on the left and peak Grebenc on the right, where we step onto a cart track. The cart track ends a little higher at the NOB monument, and we continue on an increasingly steep pathlet that continues through the steep valley or along the slope a few meters above the little valley. Higher up the valley narrows considerably, so that it is especially in springtime exposed to falling rocks. When the little valley widens the path turns right onto the slope, where it still ascends steeply for some time, then, when the forest begins to thin, the path also flattens. A little further we step onto the pastures of Mala Poljana, and along the path, from which some views open up towards Gorenjska when looking back, we walk to the nearby hunting cottage.
Behind the cottage we step onto a saddle, where there is a marked junction. From the junction we continue right in the direction of Velika Poljana (sharply left Zavetišče v Gozdu, left Tolsti vrh, slightly left (a few minutes pathless) hunting path to Tolsti vrh, straight down Dom pod Storžičem) and continue the path along the ascending cart track. During the traversing ascent some views open up temporarily towards the Karavanke, then the path returns to the forest for a short time and brings us to the upper edge of Velika Poljana, where there is the next marked junction.
We continue straight (left Storžič) and descend across the panoramic pasture to the cottage on Velika Poljana.
