Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice highway we take the Lesce exit and drive to Bled, from where we head towards Pokljuka and Spodnje Gorje. Near the settlement Rečica we come upon roadside signs "Hotel Triglav, railway station, rowing center", which we follow, and turn left. Then, after driving past restaurant Vila Mangart on the right and through the settlement, we notice a right turnoff, and on the road a sign for the bus stop. We park in a suitable place (currently possible in front of the abandoned house on the left side of the road).
Route description:
We continue on the road in the direction in which we were driving before. At the first houses, before the right turn we turn left onto a side road (Za gradom). We continue along it past two houses, then straight (right settlement), to a small bridge over the stream, which we cross. Here we stand on a cart track, which we leave and step onto the path on the right, thus following the sign "Višce". A pleasant forest path first winds its way up the slope, and a little higher turns slightly left, gradually flattens and follows a wide ridge in the southeast direction. After a short walk we come upon a nice monument to Adolf Muhr, a lord from the 19th century. Behind it the path crosses a cart track and soon brings us to a clearing with a bench. From here we continue straight across the meadow (right is also correct), where we soon notice the only slightly distant Bled Castle. On the meadow we do not turn left, but continue straight to the edge of the forest (thicket), where we come upon two paths descending a smaller slope. We choose the right one, descend in the direction toward the lake, and soon come upon a wider path, along which we continue left toward the castle. Along the path, which descends slightly, we come upon two benches; at the lowest point before it ascends, the path also crosses a somewhat wider path coming from the lake. After a short ascent at the junction we turn slightly right, then soon turn from the flat path left onto the path up the slope toward the top. Shortly after, our path again crosses a flatter path and in a slight right turn continues the ascent toward the top. Higher up the path flattens, and we turn right. When from the path along the northern edge of the hill we spot the castle almost directly nearby, we turn right off the path onto a narrow path leading toward the top of the ridge. This brings us in a slight left turn to a viewpoint on a rock, from where an interesting view of Bled Castle and the lake with the island opens up. After descending back to the main path, a strong fence accompanies us along the slightly ascending traverse of the steep slope, and soon we descend further along the path to the parking lot below the castle. We continue through the castle walls at the entrance and ascend on a paved path to the entrance of the castle courtyard (entrance fee during the season). After visiting the lower terrace we continue past the wine cellar to the upper terrace with the Gothic castle chapel, museum and restaurant.
