Bled Castle

Description of mountain:
On a steep cliff rising 123 m above the surface of Lake Bled stands one of Slovenia's oldest fortresses, mentioned in documents as early as the 11th century - Bled Castle. For centuries the seat of the large Gorenjska estate of the Brixen Diocese, today one of Slovenia's greatest cultural and tourist attractions is arranged as a museum holding an extensive collection of weapons from the 16th to 18th centuries. The castle also houses a guesthouse with a restaurant, and in the castle chapel of St. Ingenuin and Albuin beautifully preserved frescoes are on display. From the castle terraces a fine view is offered of Lake Bled with its island and surroundings, Pokljuka, Jelovica, and the Julian Alps with Triglav.
