Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana–Jesenice highway, take the Lesce exit and follow the road towards Bled, Bohinjska Bistrica and later Ribčev Laz. At the crossroads right next to Lake Bohinj, turn left towards the Hotel Bellevue, but we follow the road for a little less than 100 m, or to the large marked parking lot. The parking lot is paid.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the asphalt road in the direction of the Hotel Bellevue, from which soon a marked path to Rodica branches off to the left, and we follow the road almost to the already mentioned hotel. Only a little before the hotel, signs for Rjava skala, Vogel and Šija point us to the left on a wide path, which soon splits into two parts. We continue on the right marked path, which after a short ascent brings us to a larger meadow.
The path then returns into the forest, and at the next junction we choose the slightly left path (direction Vogel), which then from a cart track changes into a footpath, and it ascends by the edge of a meadow. Above the meadow the path goes again into the forest and gradually starts to ascend more steeply. For some time we ascend relatively steeply through the forest, then it thins out and the path brings us to a wider cart track and only a few meters further to a macadam road. We follow the road to the left, but we walk on it only about 30 m, then signs for Vogel direct us to the right on a footpath, which starts to ascend more steeply through the forest. Higher up, we join a tractor track, which soon splits into two parts. We continue on the right marked path, which soon brings us to a forest road, which we only cross.
The path ahead ascends through a belt of bushes and a short panoramic slope, then passes into dense forest, through which it ascends for quite some time. Higher, we come into a smaller avalanche basin below Storeč vrh, which we bypass in a semicircle to the right. On the other side of the basin the path ascends steeply, then brings us to the Vogel plateau. Here the path continues with some shorter descents and ascents, and we soon arrive in the immediate vicinity of the ski area.
A little further ahead the path splits into two parts, where to the left branches off the path to Šija, and we continue to the right in the direction of the Ski Hotel on Vogel. After a shorter crossing and then a gentle ascent, we arrive at the already mentioned hotel.
At the Ski Hotel, we head west and continue on the macadam road, which passes by the mountain hut Merjasec. The road starts to descend slightly and brings us to a junction. We take the right road following the signs »Komna, Sirarna Zadnji Vogel«. The road continues to descend slightly and soon we are again at a junction. This time we take the left road following the signs »Pl Zadnji Vogel, Komna«. Already after a few tens of meters of ascent, an inscription on the rock (Vogel) directs us onto a footpath that goes right into the forest. The path through the forest runs parallel to the road and starts to descend slightly. When we join the road again, we continue following the signs »Pl. Zadnji Vogel«. The road then crosses the Zadnji Vogel cableway and brings us to a junction at Sirarna Zadnji Vogel. We continue straight past the sirarna and follow the signs »Komna« (to the left branches off the path to Vogel). The path then through the dwarf pines brings us into the forest and starts to descend slightly again. To the right branches off a path that leads into the valley towards the Hotel Zlatorog, but we continue on the left path, which soon brings us out of the forest and beautiful views open up on the surrounding peaks. Here the path starts to ascend again and runs mostly over grassy terrain surrounded by sparse dwarf pines. The path slowly starts turning to the left and brings us to a junction. To the left leads the path towards the saddle Globoko (1828 m), but we continue to the right towards Konjsko sedlo. Here we start ascending along the left side of the valley, and the view is most beautiful on Konjski vrh and Bohinjski Migovec. When we reach the saddle, we continue left following the signs »Vogel«. The path then crosses the slopes below the summit Meja (1996). When we start approaching the neighbouring summit – Rušnati vrh (1915 m), the slopes above us will become somewhat less steep. Here we leave the marked path and start ascending the scree to the right upwards. The slope becomes quite steep, but we reach the ridge without climbing slightly to the right of Rušnati vrh. On the ridge where we come to an unmarked path, we continue to the right. The path initially runs along the ridge, but in the last part it moves away from the ridge to the south side and ascends along the rocky ridge towards the summit.
