Access to starting point:
We drive to Smrečje above Vrhnika (here from Vrhnika through Podlipska dolina or from Horjul via Šentjošt), where we park in a suitable place near the church. We park so as not to obstruct the bus, which has a turning point or stop nearby.
Route description:
From the church we continue along the asphalted road towards Vrh Svetih Treh Kraljev and Lavrovec. A little further we reach a small junction, where we turn onto the upper road towards Vrh Svetih Treh Kraljev. After a few metres the road takes us out of the forest, where we continue straight. Then in a gentle ascent we cross meadows by individual houses and soon reach the forest again. Here the road rises a little more and leads us to the next junction on grassy slopes. We turn left and follow this road across part of the village, after which we reach the military tunnel of the Rupnik Line. For viewing the tunnels we recommend flashlights; to continue the route through the cave we must be experienced cavers or have a guide's escort, as the military tunnel passes into a natural cave. From the cave entrance to the hut we have only a minute's walk.
