Stari trg (Pilštanj) - Sveti Mihael (Pilštanj)

Access to starting point:
a) We drive to Šentjur, then follow the signs for Podsreda and Planina pri Sevnici. At the end of Šentjur we turn left towards Podsreda, then continue on a rather winding road to the settlement of Lesično, from where we follow the signs for Kozje. When Lesično ends we will reach a small gorge, where on the left side of the road we will notice a gravel rest area with a table, benches and trash bins next to it. We park here.
b) From the Brežice - Podčetrtek road at the edge of the settlement Bistrica ob Sotli we turn left (from the direction of Podčetrtek right) towards Podsreda. We bypass the center of Podsreda on the right side, then drive to the settlement of Kozje and continue following the main road towards Lesično. Before reaching Lesično we arrive at a junction, where a road branches off to the right towards Pilštanj (this part is called Stari trg), we continue straight for about 500 meters and then on the right we notice a larger gravel parking area, where we park.
c) From the direction of Sevnica and Krško we drive to Brestanica, then follow the signs for Podsreda. A short climb follows, then a descent into Podsreda, where at the end of the settlement we turn left towards Šentjur and Kozje. When we reach Kozje we continue further on the main road towards Lesično. Before reaching Lesično we arrive at a junction, where a road branches off to the right towards Pilštanj (this part is called Stari trg), we continue straight for about 500 meters and then on the right we notice a larger gravel parking area, where we park.

Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue on foot along the main road towards Kozje. Since there is no sidewalk along the road, caution is required on this approximately 500-meter-long section. When the valley widens a bit, we reach the marked road intersection for Pilštanj (hamlet Stari trg). Since there are no suitable places for safe parking right at the intersection, the decision to park at the previously mentioned organized parking lot is the best choice.
At this intersection, we leave the main road and turn left towards Pilštanj (to the right over the small bridge, paths lead to Bredič and Bohor). We continue along the ascending asphalt road. After just a few minutes of walking, we get a nice view upwards towards the ridge of Bredič and towards the church of St. Michael.
Higher up at the intersection, we follow the road to the left, then in a few minutes of moderate ascent we climb to a small pass at the edge of the compact part of the Pilštanj settlement.
Here we leave the main asphalt road, which turns right (direction Vina gora and Rudnica), while we continue straight or slightly left through the picturesque and historic market core. We walk past well-preserved market houses and keep to the left directions. The path leads us past the famous Pilštanj pranger (pillory) and the century-old drain. While viewing the rich cultural landmarks of the place, we quickly reach the top of the ridge, where the parish church of St. Michael appears before us.
