Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Škofja Loka, and then we continue driving towards Železniki, Podbrdo and Tolmin. A few kilometers after Podbrdo, we will get to a crossroad, where a narrower ascending road towards villages Znojile, Stržišče and Kal branches off sharply to the right. We follow the relatively narrow road towards the village Stržišče. In the mentioned settlement, parking spaces are arranged (it is clearly visible with the help of satellite images).
B) From the road Idrija - Most na Soči, at settlement Bača pri Modreju we turn right, or left, if we come from the direction of Posočje and we continue driving towards Podbrdo. After settlement Hudajužna, we get to a crossroad, where signs for villages Znojile, Stržišče and Kal point us to the left on a narrower ascending road. We follow the relatively narrow road towards the village Stržišče. In the mentioned settlement, parking spaces are arranged (it is clearly visible with the help of satellite images).
Path description:
When we get to Stržišče the road at first leads past a concrete trough with water, and then past a few houses we get to a crossroad, where we continue sharply left in the direction of Rodica and village Rut (straight Kal). The road on which we continue soon splits, and we continue on the upper right road (left leads to the nearby house), which before the next house we leave and continue slightly right on a cart track which quickly passes into the forest. During the ascent through the forest occasionally a view opens up towards Matajurski vrh and Črna prst. A little further, on a saddle north from the peak Vidizek (977 m), we reach the road which leads towards the mountain pasture Stržiška planina and hunting cottage Sanek and the road which leads towards Kalarsko brdo, and the mentioned road we only cross and continue on a wide cart track in the direction of Rodica and Rut.
Behind the pasture, by the edge of which is situated a wooden cottage, the path passes through the forest and at first leads past a smaller spring, and then also past some signposts of Slovenian geological trail. The path further occasionally runs below the cliffs, where mainly in spring time and after rain there is increased danger of falling stones. Next follows traversing of a torrent, then the path leads us past an indistinct, but quite panoramic summit Grive (893 m), which is from the path distant only a few 10 strides to the left. From here on, the path for some time lightly descends, and then leads past another vantage point (access to the vantage point is marked, and the path there already entirely overgrown). After the vantage point, the path turns right, and after further crossing brings us to Tomčeva grapa. The all the time wide path, after the gully gradually starts lightly ascending, then past a stone trough and into the wall carved year 1910, brings us to a marked junction, where slightly to the left branches off the path towards the village Rut, and we go straight and still continue the ascent on the wide path. The path further for quite some time ascends below the summit Lajte (1056 m), and then we join the macadam road which comes from the village Rut.
We continue the ascent on a wide macadam road which a few minutes higher brings us to the unmarked crossroad, and we continue on the right road, by which there is a traffic sign prohibiting further driving and a gate. After the gate the road starts ascending steeper, and then at the next crossroad, where a narrower road branches off to the right, we continue straight, and we walk on it to the spot where the road narrows or splits into two cart tracks.
We continue on the upper wider cart track, by which there are signs for Rodica. Further, we for some time ascend diagonally on a worse road or cart track which leads us past the hunting observatory and occasional views on mountains on the other side of Baška grapa. Higher also from the left joins a marked path from the village Grant, a few 10 meters further from the cart track we continue right in the direction of Rodica (straight Koča na planini Razor - path over Huda stopna).
Behind the junction named Mladinska koča we start ascending on a nicely preserved mule track, which after a few minutes turns sharply to the left, then for quite some time ascends diagonally towards the left, at first still through the forest and then through dwarf pines. During the diagonal ascent the path leads us also over some gullies, and passages over them are not demanding, because the path is wide all the time. With nice views on Idrijsko and Cerkljansko hribovje, at the right serpentine we get very close to the summit Jehlc, which during the entire crossing we see in front of us. At this serpentine straight ahead continues the pathless approach to the mentioned summit (last part before the ridge is demanding), and we continue on the marked path which still continues on the mule track. Two serpentines higher also to the left branches off an easier approach to the previously mentioned summit, and we still ascend through dwarf pines. A little higher we reach the ridge which stretches from Jehlc to the main ridge of Spodnje Bohinjske gore, the path avoids it several times, once to the left, another time to the right side. Higher dwarf pines are replaced by grasses and stones, and with every step nicer views open up. Next follows a few serpentines, where we ascend over a steeper slope, then the slope flattens and the path brings us to a marked junction, where we join the path from the Bohinj side.
Here we continue right (left Šija, Ski hotel Vogel and Ribčev Laz) and on a moderately steep ridge in good 10 minutes of additional walking we ascend to the 1966 meters high peak Rodica.
From the peak Rodica we continue on a partly demanding marked path along the ridge to Črna prst, which also belongs to the Slovenian mountain path. The path is very scenic, but also exposed in some sections.
When we reach the cottage on Črna prst, a descent awaits on an easy marked path to the village Kal, from which we walk back to our starting point in Stržišče.
