Access to starting point:
A) From the road Maribor - Dravograd we drive almost to the settlement Ožbalt (from the direction of Dravograd a little after the settlement). A few hundred meters before (from the direction of Dravograd after the settlement) the mentioned settlement, a road branches off to the right (from the direction of Dravograd to the left) towards Gradišče and Kapla, and then at the crossroads we follow towards Kapla. We drive along the road to the settlement Zgornja Kapla, where in the center of the settlement, below the church of St. Catherine of Alexandria, we park on the parking lot next to the cemetery. From the main road to the starting point there is a little less than 15 km.
B) From the road Dravograd - Maribor we drive to the settlement Ožbalt, where at the parish church we turn left (from the direction of Maribor right) onto a side road that continues past the branch primary school and then ascends along the Ožbalt Stream. Higher up at the crossroads we follow in the direction of Kapla, and we drive to the center of the settlement Zgornja Kapla, where below the church of St. Catherine of Alexandria we park on the parking lot next to the cemetery. From the main road to the starting point there is a little less than 8 km.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we walk to the red mountain signposts, from which we proceed on the road towards Remšnik and Sršenov vrh. After a minute of walking, we reach a junction, where a road branches sharply left towards a nearby house, an asphalt road continues slightly to the right, and we go slightly left on an ascending macadam road, alongside which the blazes continue. From the road, a marked footpath soon branches off to the left towards Sršenov vrh, but we continue on the macadam road, which becomes asphalt at a small saddle.
Here, a road branches off to the left, which higher up joins the previously mentioned footpath leading to Sršenov vrh, but we continue on the asphalt road, which begins to descend diagonally. A few minutes lower, we join another road, which we follow straight ahead. A little further, we leave the forest and bypass the Kašman-Kogal farm on the right side, continuing with beautiful views of the surrounding hills, and in good visibility, the view extends all the way to the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The path ahead mostly descends moderately, occasionally passing individual farms, and at crossroads, we follow the signs for Remšnik. Lower down, the road enters a dense forest, and signs direct us sharply left from the road onto a cart track that descends diagonally to a nearby stream, where it turns right and continues slightly above the stream. Lower, past a house, we reach an asphalt road, which we follow to the left, descending past a few houses to a spot where signs for Remšnik direct us right onto a path that first crosses the Potočnik Stream, then passes two houses and enters the forest. Through the forest, we first ascend in two hairpin turns, then ascend along the cart track for a few more minutes, and then reach a macadam road, on which we continue. The road quickly leads us out of the forest and after a short crossing joins a wider road, which we follow to the left (to the right is sv. Pankracij). We continue for a few minutes with beautiful views of Remšnik and the surrounding hills, then temporarily return to the forest. Even lower, we pass a few more houses and smaller crossroads, and the path temporarily leaves the road and goes right into the forest, where along a cart track it cuts a longer road bend. Lower, we return to the road, along which we descend into the valley of the Brezniški Stream, down which we descend to the nearby marked crossroads from which we go right in the direction towards Remšnik (straight down Brezno).
We continue on the road, which further leads us through Kelnerjev graben, and higher up, the road withdraws from the graben onto the slopes across which we ascend diagonally. Higher, the blazes from the road direct us left into the forest, through which we ascend more steeply, following the poorly trodden path in the direction of the blazes. Higher, we leave the forest and across a meadow ascend to a cart track, along which we continue to the nearby church of St. George on Remšnik.
