Access to starting point:
From the Rupa - Rijeka / Rijeka or Zagreb - Rijeka / Rijeka motorway, we drive towards Rijeka, from there we follow the signs for Krk Island. When the motorway or the fast road in the last section ends, we descend to the Krk Bridge (toll 35 kuna - March 2014), then continue driving towards the towns of Omišalj, Njivice, Malinska, Krk, Punat and Baška. After the town of Punat, which we bypass on the left side, the road begins to climb steeply towards the Treskavac pass (Treskavac is a suitable starting point for some hiking tours, including the ascent to the highest peak of Krk - Obzova (569 m)). After the pass, the road begins to descend and is quite winding further on; it levels out somewhat only when we arrive in the valley. We then drive through Drago Bašćansko and Jurandvor, then arrive in Baška, where the signs for the church of St. Ivan direct us left (the left road junction is just a few meters ahead of the large car and bus parking lot) to a somewhat narrower road that climbs to the parking lot in front of the church of St. Ivan.
Between 9 PM and 6 AM, the road from Baška to St. Ivan is closed to public traffic.
Path description:
At the end of the parking lot, the road turns sharply left (straight across the fence we reach the cemetery and the church of St. Ivan, from where there is a nice view towards Baška and the sea) and after a few dozen meters brings us to the place where we cross the pasture fence.
After the fence, a poorer road continues to the right towards the upper part of the cemetery, but we continue straight on the mule track, which moderately ascends through a pleasant pine forest that provides shade on hot days. Along the path, which ascends gently to moderately, there are several benches where we can rest, and during the ascent we are offered nice views several times towards Baška, Senjska vrata, Prvić Island, the ridge of mountains west of Baška ending at Cape Škuljica, Velebit and more. A few marked hairpin turns follow, then we gradually pass from the slope into a more plateau-like terrain, where the path to Stražica branches off to the right, about 500 meters of walking, but we continue on the wider and well-maintained path. The fairly level path then brings us in a few minutes of further walking to the shelter and information boards on Mesečev plato / Planina Mjesec.
