Access to starting point:
We enter Hungary via the Pince / Tornyszentmiklos border crossing and drive towards Budapest. When we reach the Budapest suburb Törökbalint, at the junction we turn towards the city of Győr. We drive another about 50 kilometers to the Tatabanya Ovaros exit, where we leave the motorway. In the town we drive to the roundabout, where we turn northwest and drive all the way to the new part of the town Ujvaros (Tatabanya strongly resembles Velenje). When we reach the Railway Station (Hungarian vasutakallomas) we spot the first signs. We park somewhere in the town.
Path description:
The trail officially starts at the railway station in the town of Tatabanya, where we will also notice the first signs. Initially white, blue, green and yellow circles accompany us, and in the town there are also quite a few tourist signs for the Turul emlekmü monument. When we reach Almos Vezer street we will spot signs in the form of a red line in a white square, which will accompany us further towards the east. We go up the stairs, then around the building and we are already at the place where it seems the trail is no more. We find the continuation through the gate of the noise barrier, after which we cross the traffic road. We cross the road and continue, then under the motorway and further along the blue fence of the water facility. The trail starts to ascend via stairs, then we reach Szöloshegy ut street. Here we turn right. After a few meters the trail with the red line goes left upwards via stairs, but we go straight on the asphalt. We walk another about 100 meters on asphalt, then we arrive at the junction for the Kata ut ferrata (also a variant of our trail that bypasses the initial C/D ascent), but we go a bit further down and already spot our left branch into the forest. This is a suitable place to put on the via ferrata set and helmet.
We go into the forest and are below the initial ascent on the cliff, where there is also an information board. The hardest part of the Het vezer ferrata is its beginning where we start with difficulty C, and halfway up the initial ascent there is also an overhang D. After the overhang follows an easier traverse to the left, or towards the north. Soon we reach the first hanging bridge (Hungarians call them Vietnamese bridge), where the variant that bypasses the initial D ascent joins us. Next is another C ascent, helped by some bolts, then another bridge. After this bridge follows a quite demanding traverse of smooth rocky slabs and yet another bridge. Follows another traverse, then the trail steeply ascends. At the end of the ascent there is a resting place, where an exceptional view opens to Tatabanya below us (actually the ferrata is almost always scenic, but due to the difficulty it is not possible or difficult to look down). Follows some easier traversing and we reach the place where we come to the junction with the Kata ut ferrata. We continue northeast, the trail here is somewhat easier but very exposed. When the trail in a sharp bend turns upwards again we reach the most attractive part of the trail - a hanging bridge, about fifteen meters long. After the bridge follows an ascent that brings us to the last bridge, after it we steeply ascend again to the next C/D overhang, which is somewhat easier than the initial one. After this section the trail becomes much easier and the protections end. Quickly we reach the junction with P sign, where we continue left along the ridge (straight to parking), where after three minutes of walking we reach the Turul Emlekmű monument, the largest eagle monument in Eastern Europe. At the monument we are rewarded with an exceptional view of the town of Tatabanya below us, the town of Oroszlany to the west and to the northwest.
What I must write is that the cables on this ferrata are somewhat wider (fi 2 cm), those in the territory of Slovenia and Croatia (fi 1 cm) - therefore wider karabiners are needed.
Since the ferrata is located on the southwest slope I recommend climbing in the morning time because later it gets quite hot from the sun.
