From Tolmin awaits us a 12 km long drive to Tolminske Ravne. From the center of Tolmin we head towards Žabče. In this settlement, we turn right among houses and above the village we continue driving towards Tolminske Ravne. After some time we descend into the valley, where we cross a bridge and continue uphill towards Ravne. When we get to the village, we turn right onto a smaller parking lot.
The road is completely asphalted, but in some parts narrow and with sharp turns.
Path description:
From the parking lot a path leads us onto a meadow, past the sign for TNP. At the end of the meadow there are gates of the pasture, behind them a signpost leads us along the path left uphill to Planina Kal and Migovec. Here we still don't find signs for Tolminski Kuk, so we continue in the direction of Migovec. From here continues an easy, poorly marked path, but at junctions well marked with signposts. Soon "Kravja pot" branches off to the left, which has the same goal, but is gentler; if we continue straight, we come to a steeper forest path.
When we come to a clearing, we come to a crossroads, where we continue right uphill. If we came via "Kravja pot", we continue straight ahead. In a few minutes we already glimpse Planina Kal and Migovec above it.
Behind Planina Kal there is a signpost directing us upwards to Krn, after which a few meters above the huts it splits left to Krn, right to Migovec. We continue in the direction of Migovec.
The path leads us first through dwarf pines, then across a rocky path, in places also a smaller scree. From the path we have a nice view of the Krn mountain range and the Tolminka valley. Along the rocky path via serpentines we come to a saddle, where we can already see the summit. Here the path leads right uphill to Migovec (approx. 15 minutes), left downhill to Tolminski Kuk.
The path first descends a few elevation meters, then we continue along a gentle slope in the direction of the rare blazes, and the path also becomes less trodden. Stone cairns help us, especially in foggy weather, as we can easily stray from the path among the dwarf pines.
Soon we emerge from the dwarf pines, and the path becomes increasingly poorly marked, so we follow the cairns and orientation towards the summit of Tolminski Kuk, which is constantly ahead of us.
If we follow the cairns and marks, the path will bring us to the saddle between Tolminski Kuk and Zeleni vrh, where we join an even worse marked path from the direction of Škrbina.
From the saddle to the summit there is still a 15-minute ascent along the ridge edge, so caution is advised.
The summit is marked with a cairn, on it we also find the logbook, stamp and seal.
