Tomšičeva cesta (Jesenice) - Jelenkamen (via Šporn)

Access to starting point:
From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Lipce, where we turn right towards Jesenice. In the settlement Slovenski Javornik, at the crossroad with traffic lights we turn left towards the center of the town. At the second traffic light crossroad (at secondary school) we turn sharply right, back on the road Tomšičeva cesta, past the primary school on the left. After a little less than a kilometer of driving, when the road is slightly descending, we get to vicinity of former store on Tomšičeva cesta (today "Čavs bar"). About 20 meters before that structure we notice pedestrian crossing, which we will use on the path towards Jelenkamen. We park on an appropriate place nearby (or few 100 meters ahead, below the hill, near the railway on large turning point).

Path description:
We cross the road on the mentioned pedestrian crossing, and we continue straight uphill, on a steep asphalt road which leads us past few houses. When the road flattens and crosses the stream, we will at the right turn by the first house on the left side notice a footpath which is ascending uphill towards the north. We leave the road and we step on this path, which is moderately ascending towards the forest. We soon run into fenced water catchment Šporen with year 1957, and the path (at first cart track) by the riverbed of the stream brings us into the forest, where we cross one of the branches of the stream. Our path by the cart track turns slightly to the right (cart track turns left) and for the second time crosses the stream, by which it is ascending uphill. Near the source of the mentioned stream, the path again turns right and soon brings us on a plain with a crossing. Here we go left towards the north, on gentle terrain, by the edge of the plain, where we ignore the left turn-off. When the path starts at first slightly ascending, at first it sticks a little to the left, but it soon soon turns sharply right and is further ascending in zig-zags. After some time at the top of southeast rib of Jelenkamen path for a short time flattens, and after this it continues straight uphill towards the north. A little higher (at the lying trunk) path turns sharply left, where at first crosses a little steeper slope, and after this it brings us on a small ridge, where there is partly open space, which offers a view on Julian Alps, and on one of viewpoints of the south slope of Jelenkamen. Here our path turns right (straight hunting footpath), quite steeply uphill and after few hairpin turns it completely flattens. Only few meters after this we will with some attention notice left turn off, on which we go. Now on gentle descent a little poorly visible gentle path among some rocks leads below the steep southeast slope of Jelenkamen, where we also notice few cairns. Then after a gentle and a short ascent our path turns a little to the right and it soon joins the marked path from Ukova. Here we go sharply right, steep on a marked path towards the summit. After a short ascent, we get help also from few 10 meters of a steel cable. Then when the steepness for a short time decreases and views start opening up, the path for the last time steeply ascends towards the summit of Jelenkamen, where there are bench and box with an inscription book on one of the trees. Here view opens towards Ljubljana basin, Jesenice, Karawanks, Ratitovec and Mežakla, and Julian Alps with Triglav.
