Access to starting point:
From Gornja Radgona, Lenart v Slovenskih goricah, or Šentilj v Slovenskih goricah, we drive to the border crossing Trate, or Cmurek / Mureck, where the described path begins on the Slovenian side. At the starting point, there aren't any parking spots for mountaineers.
Path description:
From the border crossing, where there is also a bus stop and the bakery Mura, we continue for a short time along the main road towards the southwest, or in the direction of Šentilj and Lenart, and then turn slightly right onto a side macadam road, along which there are signposts for Sladki Vrh and Zgornja Velka. The path ahead leads us along the flow of the river Mura upwards, and we bypass the nearby house on the right, lower side. The path then continues between the forest and slopes on the left side and a field on the right side, and after the hunting observatory, we arrive at a marked crossing.
From the crossing, we continue sharply left onto a footpath, along which there are signs for Zgornja Velka and Vranji Vrh (straight ahead Sladki Vrh, Šentilj, and the tourist excursion farm Sirk).
Next follows a short, steep ascent, after which the path flattens and leads us along the edge of the forest. On the other side of the meadow, the path splits, but the crossroads is not marked.
Straight or slightly to the right, path Šentiljska pot continues, which higher up reaches the main road Trate - Lenart in Slovenske gorice, but we continue slightly left and descend in a minute along a cart track to the mentioned road, then ascend along it, where there are no more Knafelc blazes, but local yellow and white ones.
Here, we carefully cross the main road and continue the ascent along the left edge of the main road, ascending to castle Cmurek.
The description and pictures refer to the condition in March 2025.
