Access to starting point:
We leave the Gorenjska highway at the Hrušica exit and follow the road ahead in the direction of Kranjska Gora. Just a little before the village of Dovje, the road to Mojstrana (Vrata, Kot and Krma) branches off to the left from the main road. We follow the road ahead in the direction of the Vrata valley and drive along it to the road sign approximately 10.5 km. Here, on the left side of the road, we will notice a smaller parking lot and a road that crosses the river. We park so that we don't close the passage over the river (Triglavska Bistrica).
In winter, the road to Vrata is closed. This can extend the walk by 1 to 2 hours.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we descend to a stream and on the other side head onto a footpath that ascends through the forest. After a few minutes of ascent, a path from Aljažev dom joins from the right. We continue left further through the forest. After less than an hour of walking, we come out of the forest onto scree fields, where we head right upward toward the wall. Even if there is no snow, orientation is not difficult as the path here is well beaten. When we reach below the walls, we turn left and continue ascending over the scree fields, which in unfavorable conditions are dangerous for snow avalanches or slipping. Further on, we continue ascending on the right side of the valley all the way to the point where the steepness eases. When the steepness eases, we walk through the valley full of large rocks (boulders). Further on, we continue depending on snow conditions. Usually, we head straight through the valley and then slightly left below Visoka Vrbanova špica. This part of the path is quite steep and, if there is little snow, the direct ascent is blocked by jumps (when there is less snow, we head right below Begunjski vrh and then cross left). Above this steep section, we reach a saddle, where a view of Triglav opens up. Here, to the left, we have only a good five minutes of walking to Staničev dom, which has a winter room that we reach in a gentle descent.
On the way: Begunjska vratca (2342m)
