Valburga - Smledniški hrib (Stari grad) (via Kalvarija)

Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Vodice, and then we continue driving towards Valburga, Smlednik, Zbilje and Medvode. When we get to Valburga, we will notice a sign for Stari grad, which points us to the left on a local road, and already after a shorter gentle ascent it brings us to signs for Kalvarija, which point us to the left. Here is the starting point of our path. At the starting point, there aren't any appropriate parking spots, so it is better that we drive a little higher and we park there on a marked parking lot. From the parking lot, we then in 5 minutes return to the starting point.

Route description:
From the starting point, we go on a wide footpath in the direction of Kalvarija. The path at first by the fence crosses to the left and then turns right and it ascends to the first station of the Cross. Ahead we are in short zig-zags ascending past the Stations of the Cross, and after 10 minutes we get to the top of Kalvarija, where past three crosses we ascend to a macadam road. We follow the road few 10 meters and then we get to "saddle on Kalvarija", where there is also some playground equipment. Here we continue slightly left on a steep footpath which at first ascends on small stairs, and then it is ascending on a steep slope. The path soon flattens and brings us on an overgrown ridge, from which path soon turns slightly to the right on still overgrown slopes. After further shorter ascent we leave bushes and we step on a macadam road, on which in few steps we walk to snack bar on Smledniški hrib.
From the snack bar we continue on a well-maintained path, on which we in few steps ascend to renovated Stari grad.
