Zadnjica - Dom Planika

Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora, drive over Vršič Pass towards Bovec or vice versa, but only to the 50th hairpin turn of the Vršič or Russian road (near the village of Trenta). Here, turn onto the side road, along which after a few hundred meters park at the parking lot by the road.

Path description:
From the paid parking lot in the Zadnjica valley, continue on the marked trail, initially along the road towards Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih, Razor, Stenar, Križ, Bovški Gamsovec, Luknja, Triglav, Koča na Doliču and Kanjavec. The trail first leads past a few houses or weekend cottages and after about 15 minutes of walking brings us to a marked junction where there used to be a free parking lot, but parking is now prohibited here.
Continue along the slightly right lower road towards Zasavska koča na Prehodavcih, Koča na Doliču, Luknja and other nearby destinations (left Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih and other goals above Kriške pode and the lower station of the cargo cableway to Kriške pode), where a gentle road continues through scenic meadows, higher through the forest. Just before the end of the forest road at the Planja junction or before the valley head in the area called Utro, a marked trail branches right towards Prehodavci.
Continue straight along the road, which soon turns into a footpath or old military mule track, along which we mostly ascend moderately on gradually steeper slopes. Still in the forest, a climbing path over Komar branches right, we continue along the mule track, which ascends in numerous hairpin turns, and due to steep slopes above, parts of the path are exposed to falling rocks.
The fairly scenic trail at about 1500 m altitude brings us to the next junction, where the path to Koča na Doliču branches right, straight ahead continues towards Luknja, Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih and Triglav via Plemenice.
Continue right towards Koča na Doliču and ascend further along the mule track (the path to Luknja also follows the mule track).
Further on, we mostly ascend moderately along the mule track over steep and occasionally exposed precipitous slopes. As the path is wide and well laid out it is not technically demanding, but exposed to falling rocks and due to occasional deep views mostly unsuitable for vertigo sufferers. The path occasionally makes some hairpin turns, otherwise ascends diagonally right, gradually approaching the mighty wall of Kanjavec.
Higher, a climbing path from Zadnjica over Komar joins from the right, a bit further the path of Mire Marko Debelakove (path over Kanjavec ledges) branches right. The increasingly scenic trail higher makes a few more hairpin turns, from it a path to Triglav branches left.
Continue straight, then quickly arrive at Koča na Doliču.
From the hut, take the path towards Vodnikov dom na Velem polju, Hribarice and Dom Planika pod Triglavom and in about ten minutes of easy ascent reach the Dolič saddle with a marked junction.
Continue left, marked for Dom Planika pod Triglavom (straight Vodnikov dom na Velem polju, right Hribarice) and ascend diagonally over relatively steep slopes of Šmarjetna glava, where a chain assists at the most difficult point. After the short secured section the slope gradually flattens, northeast of Šmarjetna glava the terrain becomes more plateau-like. The path approaches the Triglav massif, leading onto screes below the rarely visited summit Rjavec (2586 m), across which we ascend diagonally right to the technically demanding section. Follows a diagonal ascent on a well-protected path, climbing the wall of Rjavec or the area called Zgornja ledina.
When protections end, gradually cross to the other side of the ridge where the slope flattens. Follows some more diagonal ascent over scree, then ascend on increasingly scenic path to Dom Planika pod Triglavom.
