Žerovinci (Dom krajanov in gasilcev Žerovinci) - Kostanj

Access to starting point:
From Ormož we drive towards Ljutomer or vice versa, and when we arrive in the settlement Žerovinci, we drive to the Dom krajanov in gasilcev, where we park.

Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue towards the southwest, where we go past Dom krajanov in gasilcev Žerovinci and a chapel, and after crossing the railway track we go left. For a short time we continue parallel with the railway, and then we continue on the road which turns right and ascends into the forest. Higher, we leave the forest and continue below the route of a high voltage power line, where the road for some time flattens, and then past a few houses we ascend to a crossroad, where we cross another power line. Here we go left, and a few 100 m ahead at the next crossroad we go right, both times in the direction of the marked path. In a gentle descent, we continue past a few houses, and when we are already ascending we go left on a side road, to which the blazes direct us. After a short ascent we again start descending, and when the priority road turns right we go straight, where the path leads also past the last houses in the hamlet. After the last house the road ends, and we start descending on a grassy cart track which ends lower at the vineyard. Behind the vineyard we go right to the edge of the forest, where we then continue the descent by rare blazes. After a few minutes of descent, we reach an asphalt road, where we go right in the direction towards Kostanj and Ormož (to the left leads the road to Ivanjkovce), and at the nearby chapel we go left on a side road. Side road quickly splits, and we continue right towards Kostanj (straight Runeč and Ormož) and we again start ascending. Further, we ascend past a few houses, at the crossroad with the priority road we go left in the direction of Velike Nedelje. A somewhat more compact part of the settlement soon ends, and about 100 m ahead before the nearby house we go right on a cart track in the direction of Kostanj.
The path after the field passes into the forest, where we go right, and then we mostly gently to moderately descend, and at the junctions we follow the blazes. Lower, we leave the forest, and the path flattens and past two ponds brings us to the road Ormož - Sveti Tomaž, where we go left towards Ormož. Along the main road we go past a few houses, and then at the crossroad we go right on a side road which a little ahead leads across the stream Lešnica. After the stream, the road turns right and starts ascending diagonally through the forest, and when we reach the first houses we go from the crossroad right. Next follows mostly an easy ascent past occasional houses, and when we arrive at the chapel we go from the crossroad slightly left. Also further the road leads us past houses, and before the road starts descending, the blazes direct us right on a side road which past the last houses ascends to the summit of Kostanj, and the inscription box is located a few 10 m further from the last house.
