Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Ljubljana - Maribor, we take the exit Vransko, then continue driving on the parallel old road in the direction of Celje. A little past the settlement of Kapla, we leave the main road and continue driving left in the direction of Braslovče. Further we drive through Gomilsko, following the road towards Braslovče to the spot where the signs for castle Žovnek direct us left. Further, we drive on a somewhat narrower road by Žovneško jezero, and at crossroads we follow it in the direction of castle Žovnek. The road then loses its asphalt surface and a little further brings us to a traffic sign that prohibits further driving. Here we park on the parking lot by the sign prohibiting further driving.
B) From the highway Maribor - Ljubljana, we take the exit Šentrupert, then continue driving in the direction of Mozirje. At the settlement of Parižlje we leave the main road and continue driving on a local road towards the settlement of Spodnje Gorče. Here we cross the main road Gomilsko - Braslovče and continue driving in the direction of the village and castle Žovnek. Further we drive through Gomilsko, following the road towards Braslovče to the spot where the signs for castle Žovnek direct us left. Further, we drive on a somewhat narrower road by Žovneško jezero, and at crossroads we follow it in the direction of castle Žovnek. The road then loses its asphalt surface and a little further brings us to a traffic sign that prohibits further driving. Here we park on the parking lot by the sign prohibiting further driving.
Path description:
From the starting point we continue on a macadam road that is closed to public traffic. The road first ascends through a small valley, higher up gradually leaving it. A little further we arrive at a smaller crossroads, where we go right, then in a few minutes we walk to castle Žovnek, from which a nice view opens towards the valley and surrounding hills.
