Description of mountain:
Fort of st. Elia, inappropriately also known as fort of st. Ignatius, is located southeast of Cagliary (Sardinia, Italy). The fort is located at about 94 meters above the sea level in the vicinity of the lighthouse and south of the hill Sella del Diavolo (Devil's Saddle), which is the symbol of the city. The starting point of the tour can easily be reached by Cagliari public transport.

The fort was built in 1792 by the military. More than fifty cannons were planned to arm the fort (the military architect was Franco Lorenzo). As it turned out in the following years, the fort was never completed and only 5 or 6 cannons were installed and only 3 to 4 cannons actually fired against the french Revolutionary fleet in the battle in January and February 1793. On 11 January 1804 the fort was used for the hospitalization of infectious patients.
