Description of mountain:
Forte di Sant'Elia (also incorrectly known in literature as Fortino di Sant'Ignazio) is located southeast of Cagliari (Sardinia).
The fort lies 94 meters above sea level. A lighthouse is nearby, and to the north, the view is blocked by the famous Sella del Diavolo hill (Devil's Saddle), a symbol of the city.
The starting point is reachable by public city transport.
The fort was built for military purposes in 1792 by architect Franco Lorenzo. It was never completed, and although plans called for 50 cannons, only 3 or 4 were fired against the French Revolutionary fleet in January and February 1793 (with just 5 or 6 cannons installed at the time). On January 11, 1804, the fort was repurposed for caring for patients with infectious diseases.
